ParticipantIn case anyone is interested:
Feeding Saddles – the fundraiser that allows us to say thank you for our health and ability to bike and also feeds our DMV community members who need a bit of extra help.
https://give.capitalareafoodbank.org/feeding-saddles-2022
I think of this donation each year as what I would happily pay if Freezing Saddles charged for participation. It’s so much fun and costs us nothing. I’d venture to say that most of us have nice bikes, go home to warm places to live, and do not suffer food shortage. It’s an easy way to give back. Thank you Rumi for organizing this opportunity to give $$ to feed people in our region.
I know some of the LFL players have already donated and THANK YOU for that. If you can help, please do. It’s a chance to say thank you for those who put on Freezing Saddles and thank you to the universe that we have the ability to ride and play and not endure unrequited hunger.

Due to the 25mph wind gusts I stayed close to home today which meant not a very target rich environment!

Participant3/17/2022 Ugly House
The term “ugly” is subjective. But my mom always said, “Ugly is as ugly does.” This banner has been up in front of this house for quite a while. I don’t care which president it is insulting, this is just ugly behavior. And it’s right next to a school – a great way to model respectful adult behavior to the kids there.

You gotta love a priest on a bicycle mural. Father Rahm was a shining light in what was a very dark place in El Paso. He is remembered very fondly! You can find out more about him here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Rahm

Participant3/16/2022 Arts & Craft
We actually DO have a prominent architect from the Prairie School of Arts & Crafts architecture who lived and worked here in El Paso. I biked over to his house today (why must it always be uphill?) to take this photo. If you want to learn more about Henry C. Trost, you can check out this website: https://www.henrytrost.org/

3/15 – The SWBID funded a number of “Traffic Box Art Wraps” to bring a little bit of life to otherwise bland traffic boxes. This one can be found at 4th and G SW (across the street from my favorite bike rack – one shaped like a tooth outside of a dentist’s office).

The artistic bike rack is also public art – if you get a chance to get a photo and post, I’d love to see it! The way bike parking has evolved fascinates me. Sometimes if it is “too pretty” or “clever” cyclists don’t use it!

El Chuco is slang for El Paso or El Pasoan. This is another @ortegtino (Tino Ortega) creation.

ParticipantBONUS LUCK OF THE IRISH:
On 3/17 ONLY, if you can fill in all of these requirements, you’ll get a pot of gold (actually a points boost).
1. Find a LFL with St. Pat’s decor (one that you haven’t already posted here)
2. Deposit a CHILDREN’s book in said LFL.
3. Do this WITH A CHILD ALONG FOR THE RIDE (independent rider or in a trailer/seat, etc.).
4. For Extra, Extra points, get a quote from the child as a caption to your photo that you post! It’s a kid – so if it doesn’t make sense, that’s fine.Photo must include the LFL, the decor, the book and the child (doesn’t have to be their face – a back of the head shot is fine – I don’t want anyone concerned about the photo of their child being posted).
All other rules apply – some part of bike in photo (yours or theirs), one photo only posted here, posted on the day of the ride, etc.
Today is the 15th – that gives you a day or two to locate someone’s child you can drag along if you don’t have one convenient to you. And no, furry “children” do not fit this requirement.

3-14 Painted Ladies
I went on what I thought would be a little ride to see a couple painted ladies I read about online in Denver. Ended up seeing so many multi-colored, detailed Queen Anne & Victorian homes that I have an entire album of Painted Ladies now
. Never noticed until today.
This one definitely had the most pop & brightest colors though. Very happy I rode the extra time & distance to find it. I hope you enjoy too!

I love all the color. But I live in Reston where color must be earth toned and generally boring.

3/14/2022 – Painted Ladies

There are so many painted ladies in Old Town. I took a dozen photos and chose the narrowest house in America and two other buildings adjacent to it to post here.
Wife: Are you going for a ride this late?
Me: Yes, I need to find some painted ladies.
Wife: What?
Me: Scavhunt.
Wife: What?
Me: (silence)
Wife: Answer my question!LOVE this! I’m so happy you’re having fun doing all this riding and research. Just don’t get in trouble with the wife!
