Make a right on the service road on either side of Arlington Blvd. Then make a left on Cherry (the first light east of Annandale), right on Columbia, and left on Van Buren. That puts you on the W&OD at Banneker Park.

Yep, what he said. It is by far the easiest way across Route 50. Do that enough times and your bound to run into me and Shawn eventually.

PS: I’m working on setting up an “introduction to Gravel Grinding” ride series in the next few weeks. I’ll lead them once or twice per month through the fall. Sunday Mornings will likely be the time.

Yes, please! Dcv and I were talking about this the other morning at FCCII. I can’t wait to get out there! Although I did just clean the Viaje this weekend …. You all can thank me for the rain later.

My morning commute … was one of those days. You know the ones where you hit every-single-red-light on the way in; have your Iphone fall out of your jersey pocket going over one of the tree roots on Custis and spend 10 minutes looking for it; find that all the walkers and joggers are three abreast and in both directions; and at least one car almost doors you when they decide to park and let riders out in the bike lane. Add to that the feeling of riding through soup and I was one hot grumpy rider when I got to work. At least until I considered the alternative … I could have taken Metro!

I suffered through a two mile ride from the office to the Potomac river where I promptly jumped in and floated around in search of relief. To be honest in the water felt little different than out of it!

Thanks for nothing, you guys, I couldn’t resist.

Three of my five top rivals: crysb, Megabeth and acc (the latter hasn’t posted to Strava in like a year, as far as I know).

Me neither! That is awesome. Top rivals — crysb, eminva, and Megabeth. A whole new way to avoid work …

Indeed he is ubiquitous. At lunch today at Lazy Sundae in Falls Church I noticed they named an ice-cream for him!

I rode the W&OD from East Falls Church to the Bluemont Trail Junction enroute to FCC II this morning. Nothing to write home about except the underpass of Wilson Blvd was flooded as it appears to do whenever we get any significant rain. Just cross Wilson at street level and all is good.

I’ll be thinking of all of you as I drive to the Cumberland C&O Trailhead with 14 scouts and the various parent escorts. Hopefully I will find the time to make or buy a cup of coffee when I have to be at the church parking lot at 5:15 a.m.

Have a great trip! We’ll buy your next cup of coffee if you promise to regale us with stories of helicopter parents and scouts awheel.

Great ride in with Shawnofthedread this morning. No pictures as I was clearly more focused on keeping up as evidenced on Strava by my two new achievements. He also said something about beating the rain. We accomplished that but I’m still so sweaty I’m pretty sure I’m not any drier for missing the rain.

I have also enjoyed riding in the drizzle and light rain this spring/summer. This morning’s deluge though drove me metro. Most unhappy start to the day!

    Sabotage!

Indeed! Someone must have realized that we Bike Arlington All Stars don’t actually ever go onto Endomondo! Or at least I haven’t logged on to Endomondo in a month since my Strava account just auto updates via tapiriik. I did just check though and, like Shawn, my July 1 and July 2 rides have shown up.

Someone advise if this ceases to be the case!

This morning I had the silent Prius pull within a few inches of me while I’m going down a hill and can’t hear anything.

Priuses (Prii??) scare the living daylights out of me for just this reason. They are so silent I never know where they are or what they plan on doing.

Well I’ve got to replace my Vaya. Any suggestions for a commuter/tourer/gravel grinder do all kind of bike? I was hoping to find something a little more esoteric or obscure. So not your usual Trek/Specialized/Cannondale thing. Not that I’m ruling them out, just that I’m hoping for something different.

    Volagi Viaje!
