I’m thinking mine might be a bit on the loose side. I was coming down the hill after crossing the Roosevelt Bridge into VA and using backpressure to slow. My chain popped right off. At first I thought I had broken it, except I think that’s almost impossible.
It looks pretty good, though.

You gotta have the track slack! But yeah I’ve crashed going over a bump and my chain popped off when I had a little too much slack.

ParticipantFor what it’s worth, growing up around here in the mid-2000s, we called Vespa-style scooters mopeds. Only recently did I realize the origin of the term.

As a special treat our tour will include Arlington’s version of Stonehenge, Dark Star Park in Rosslyn. We will enjoy an almost perfect solar alignment (the actual lineup of shadows is a few days later (Aug 1, but during the work week. On this weekend visit, we can expect fewer crowds and an uninterrupted view!

I’m interested! What is the easiest way to get there from DC, for someone who has zero knowledge of Virginia geography aside from bike trails? Lol! Thanks!
Looks like the Key Bridge and a brief stint on Fort Myer Drive gets you there. Just stay far left, and go up (towards east Wilson Boulevard, not route 50).

For Compass Coffee, I’d take Fort Myer, left on 19th, and a right on N Moore to get there.

What was your bike and tire setup? (For you, and anyone else that did the GRUSK and doesn’t mind sharing. Pics don’t hurt also

Didn’t do the Grande/Loco, but the ~75 mile Epic race. My do-everything bike: Santa Cruz Stigmata cross bike, 38mm tubeless Schwalbe G-Ones (~40 psi front, ~44 psi rear), 50/34 x 11-32, MTB pedals (hi Subby), 2 water bottles. No flats, high enough gearing so that you’re not spun out stupid quickly on the paved descents, low enough gearing on the other end that the gravel climbs out there are as minimal a problem as they’ll ever be — what more could you ask for? I didn’t crash on the grassy doubletrack this year (or at all), so I’m happy about that.

ParticipantI rode the W&OD and Custis from Falls Church through the Ballston Connector around 11am this morning, and everything was OK, just a lot of detritus deposited by high water (e.g. under 66). There were a couple places that still had standing water, but it wasn’t that bad.
Around 9am it wasn’t looking too good, but it had all drained within two hours.

What’s the group consensus on whether my pedelec assist bike would be suitable for this kind of riding? (29×2.0 tires, with a fairly upright posture.)
I have a car, no bike rack, and potentially a bike (which just barely fits into the car with the back seats folded down.)
NCVC is putting on a gravel race this fall, and there’s an e-bike category for the shorter version (37 miles, 4.5k feet climbing). I don’t know how long the battery lasts or how heavy it is, but you could try this. I’d definitely make sure you have some decent tires on though.
