Current extended forecasts have reduced the probability of rain for Saturday, so keep your fingers crossed.
Crap, I was looking forward to whining the entire time.

Is your steerer metal or carbon?
Metal. I think I’ll just bring the fork or the entire bike to the LBS and have them install a new nut. I’ll go the DIY route next time.

I think he meant a smaller bike next year, maybe a kid-sized one.
I tried the sprint this year but I couldn’t sit on the seat. So I had to stand the entire time I tried to sprint. That didn’t really work too well.
Did they change the seat height for you? Tim understood what I meant, but he had to gloat about his victory.

ParticipantAs I was setting out this morning, I felt a little play in my fork this morning and remembered someone posted about a catastrophic failure. Unscrewed the cap and the star fangled nut was bent to hell (torque wrench just jumped to #1 on the wishlist) and it pretty much just plopped right out. Since I was kinda late, the drive in wasn’t that bad.

One change that I would suggest: a wider variety of bike sizes for the Goldsprints. The bike trainer sprints are fun, but not really efficient if you aren’t within a certain height. It was difficult to pedal on the bikes for some, including the kids who tried it out. (The bikes were also difficult for the kids to climb on and off. I saw one girl fall over with the bike after she finished her sprint. Fortunately she wasn’t seriously injured.)
I know the Goldsprints were run by a separate sponsoring company, but maybe the official organizers can suggest that they include some smaller bikes for next year’s edition (if the Goldsprints return).
Um, can we make Tim ride the smaller bike?

Hey Pete — how do you handle eye protection? Especially at night in rain — last night’s rain was sufficiently hard and blowing that going without glasses was uncomfortable, but it was also misty enough that mine got misted over really quick. So it was either be comfortable and not be able to see much or be uncomfortable and see that dang 6 point deer that was bedded down right by the trail and sprang up right in front of me…. Luckily I had chosen option B (no glasses) and avoided him!
I had to ditch the glasses last night too. Had to stop and pull out my cap which really helped block most of the rain from entering my eyeballs.
This morning I was really glad I had glasses on when I went through all the seagulls at Gravelly Point, ewwww!

If the Crystal City venue for last year’s end of contest party was ok (Bailey’s – they gave us a nice room and I think everyone was happy with it), I’ll be glad to volunteer to arrange for it again. I like the idea of supporting Crystal City venues – Crystal City has been very bike friendly and the location is very convenient to get to by bike.
Unfortunately, they closed this week.
