Participant1/26/2023 Vietnam War ends
When the Vietnam War ended, these Swift Boats came back to the U.S.
The U.S. Navy employed Patrol Craft Fast (PCF) or Swift Boats in its coastal river operations of the Vietnam War. From 1965 to 1972, Swift Boats based all along the coast of the Republic of Vietnam searched for North Vietnamese steel-hulled ships, junks and other craft attempting to deliver arms and munitions to enemy forces ashore.
You probably passed these boats when you ride on the River Walk near the Navy Yard, they have markers talking about the importance of these boats and a dedication to the Swift Boat Sailors who died during the Vietnam War, the youngest was 18 years old.

Participant1/22/2023 -DC Music
Kingman Island has been the home to DC’s Bluegrass & Folk Festival since 2010 featuring local bands and artists. Funds raised from the festival supported the Living Classrooms organization, which manages the island’s revitalization and educated DC students about protecting the environment.
The festival hasn’t been held since the start of the pandemic, but the island is open to nature lovers – so if you haven’t visited this magical place, be sure to stop by!
PS. I would have wanted to go to the island, but found this sign along the route. Thanks to the group going to the Wilson Bridge for waiting for me!!!

Participant1/17/2023 – Prohibition
The Quarry House in Silver Spring, MD is located down a steep narrow staircase on the corner of Bonifant and Georgia Ave. It was one of the few speakeasies still standing from the prohibition era.
Back in the day, there was no sign, you either knew it was there or not. I guess the new owners want to be found. -
