January 25, 2023 at 1:49 am #1124029LeftyLauraParticipantThe penguins are coming off the ice flow and doing the Arlington Loop. Starting at 1 pm, Saturday, 1/28, from Shirlington, clockwise. I’ll meander from East Falls Church Metro about 12:20 to the meeting start, across from Busboys & Poets. All are welcome. Look for the penguin jersey.

So sorry I can’t join the penguins.
January 26, 2023 at 1:58 pm #1124123karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantCome and explore while on 2 wheels some of Reston’s 80+ permanent and temporary public artworks and score some #publicartfinder points!
This fun ride is a joint venture between #publicartfinder pointless prize sponsor @Boomer2U and Reston-resident karenbikes2. Participation is open to all who can ride a bike and at your own risk so please wear a helmet, use bike lights and obey all road rules/trail etiquette. Here is the 17.8 mile route with an easy option to shorten to about 8 miles:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41867937Ride starts at the Wiehle East-Reston Metro Plaza in front of Starbucks. If you’re arriving by metro, turn left after you go through the fare gates. If you’re arriving via the W&OD, at the Wiehle Ave crossing, turn left onto Wiehle, cross Sunset Hills Rd, take the next right at Reston Station Blvd, then your first left up a cobblestone-ish access road to the Wiehle East-Reston Metro Plaza. Starbucks will be on your right, near the entrance to the metro. For those driving, there’s a free parking lot at the intersection of Wiehle and Sunset Hills. From there folllow the directions for riding from the W&OD.
For more information on some of the art we’ll see on the ride: https://publicartreston.org/
If the weather is foul on the 5th, we’ll ride instead on Sunday, 2/12/2023, 11am.
January 26, 2023 at 2:33 pm #1124127Rod SmithParticipantI work on Sundays or else I would love to ride out to Reston for some public art finding! Karen, have we met? Maybe on a ride to Lake Artemesia with Lynn Salvo. There was a lady from Reston on that ride.

Let’s host a #publicartfinder goes to Hyattsville MD (and/or DC) on a day when you are free to both join us and curate the art finds;-)

Also, always feel free to add to the FS calendar. Anyone with access may do so.(and if you don’t have access, I can provide it)

Bummer that you can’t join us Rod! If there’s a day during the week that would work for you sometime, happy to take you on the route. And I would LOVE to do an art ride in Hyattsville! I can make a Saturday if I know the date a couple of weeks in advance.
I don’t think we’ve met. That was probably my good riding buddy Catherine on the Lake Artemesia ride with Lynn. I couldn’t ride that day for some reason. Lake Artemesia is a ride I’d like to do sometime.

The start point is on the plaza by the Wiehle East-Reston metro stop. I added some clarifying information to my post, including directions from the W&OD. Hope that is helpful. I will try to add this ride to the FS calendar and let you know if I need access.

Laura, I hope to make it but no guarantees. If I can, where does one park in Shirlington, please? I’ve only ridden the loop from Roosevelt island.
