ParticipantI am totally up for this only if my team can’t trade me after they meet me.

Just a heads up on riding technique on ice or slick surfaces:
-Slow way down.
-Maintain a smooth pedal stroke. Don’t mash the pedals up and down, but rather try to pedal in a smooth circle.
-Ride in a straight line. Turning the handlebars can make you take a spill. If you need to change course slightly, try “steering from your hips” by shifting your balance slightly.
-Get off and walk if you need to!
Also, I found unclipping helps a ton.

Thanks hozn, jrenaut, and ronwalf for your hard work!
I am really looking forward to this fun competition for the first time. I am very grateful for all the hard work all of you are doing to make this happen. I would have blown up ten times already and probably would have been banned from the forum and possibly the sport by now.

ParticipantKind of see this as a constant distraction that would be hard to ignore as the numbers would be constantly changing. The garmin on the bar is only distracting if i choose to look at it.

ParticipantTad bit nipper this morning.
Also, weird sound alert:
when i was coasting down hill at higher speed, somewhere on my bike a high pitch rubbing brake pad type sound would happen. Check the pads, nothing rubbing. As soon as I pedaled, it would stop, which made for some hairy descents. Maybe bottom bracket area. Sorry to vague about the location, i was wearing one of those windblock ear covers. I don’t ride my cross much, so kind of unfamiliar with the bike’s nuances.
Any ideas??Jason B

Did you (or anyone) ride the WOD from Custis to Columbia Pike and how is it?
Yea, only the wood bridges had ice. I’m riding my cross with 25’s, so it is easily done.
Thought they were 32’s but checked again and only skinny 25’s, so just walk the little bridge or do the one foot slide like I did.Jason B

Any reports of conditions from MVT up FMT to WOD (Crystal City to Bluemont Junction)?
Didn’t ride today but would like to tomorrow.
Thanks.
Just rode it and it was fine. There is ice on the wood bridges on the WOD past Columbia, but not enough to deter you from riding.

Are you able to use it with glasses? I am still searching for the elusive non-fogging face mask.Jason B
ParticipantMVT – Airport to Custis was fine except for the two little overpasses at airport. Custis was OK. Climb out of Rosalyn was clear, but after 66 overpass it was pretty icy until first climb past corkscrew (corkscrew was fine).

ParticipantSo, I can probably stop worrying about my rims when I jump the curb at Roosevelt Island.

ParticipantNeat, but scary dangerous.

ParticipantPerfecting the snot rocket is way more useful than a bunny hop or even a track stand. I think it originated on a castle wall in France during the Middle Ages.

That actually works out because Rule #10 and Summerdrummer are total slackers anyway. Can I at least ask that they are not on the same team as me?:pJason B
ParticipantI was able to convince two others teachers to join this year and they want to take a stab at the Freezing Saddles. Are teams randomly assigned?

ParticipantGreat thread. Nothing to add off hand, but eagerly taking notes.
