Yes, sorry I wasn’t clear; have updated original post.

Is the 11am end time fairly accurate? Trying to decide if I can make it to Columbia for 1:30 cx race (“race”).
Yes, it has been, provided we leave on time (8am). We expect things will take a little longer this year with the FMR detour and optional scavenger hunts at the pit stops.
And thanks.

At a BAC meeting a while back, Henry (I think) offered to talk directly with NPS folks about what BA had learned about paint. But always good to involve more people who might had helpful knowledge.
As I have a line of communication open with NPS staff about MVT signage, I’m happy to bring up this corner. But for the record, I don’t recall ever offering to share my expertise about surface paint (mostly because I don’t have any). It must have been other Top Men who have direct experience with these matters.

KeymasterGreat advice on communicating. Were you able to use the tip on your ride?

Please go to the Sign Up Genius page for the event and register as a Ride Marshal. Still need a few more if you know anyone.
Thanks. Henry

This reminds me of an article I read a long time ago that linked cats with bumper stickers with a greater likelihood of committing road rage.
I’m thinking the rage might come when you try to pull the bumper sticker off the cat.

where there is no door zone bike lane (I want to be able to do this without worrying about being too close to doors) and where there is very little traffic.
I assume this rules out Superman Hill (Walter Reed from Four Mile Run to Pollard).
I suggest 3 nearby options:
1) S. 16th St. From Taylor to Quincy in Douglas Park,
2) S. Oxford St. in Nauck, from Four Mile Run Minor, up to Oakland.
3) Also in Nauck, the back side of that same hill, 22nd Street, from Kenmore to Nelson. All are low-volume neighborhood streets. I think Oxford is the lowest volume, steepest climb.

I do note that no countries have achieved widespread adoption of transportation biking without a commitment to seg infra.
Indeed. And interestingly, most of the comments in this OpEd calling for more protected infra in Boston say it won’t work there because of the weather. Well Boston is about 300 miles south of Montreal, which the LA Times piece cites heavily as a city with the highest rate of bike ridership in North America, having been transformed by investing in PBLs.

It’s legal in VA, but not legal to filter between two through-lanes of cars.
So just between the cars and the curb?

KeymasterYep. Evening commute yesterday, approaching bridge over Rt 50 near TJMS, young lady right in the middle of the trail, complete with large ear-muff sized head phones to block out all external noises like my warning bell, going “DING-DING-DING-DING!”. She looked up when I was about three feet from her and at a near stop by that point. Judging from the smile on her face, she looked to be having a good time. Glad one of us was.

KeymasterAnyone have a photo from the MVT last night? Just looking to counter what the platform at L’Enfant Plaze looked like around the same time.

KeymasterAnna Ray, who has been working with us on the CaBi Community Partners Program, regularly rides the Benning Road Bridge and posted in the WMATA Bikepool page that she’d be willing to lead new riders across. Link to the FB group is here.

Ask the GPO management. No one here will have a better answer than GPO management.
Physical plant staff are usually “in the know” about whether shower facilities exist on site.
When I worked on the Hill in the 80s, our shower was a two-stall, gender neutral room with just a curtain up in the attic of the Dirksen. (What could go wrong?)
Anyway, I recall that I had to ask around quite a bit to find out it existed. I also recall that only I and one other staffer from Oklahoma used it.

KeymasterTrust me folks, versions of these ideas and others are forthcoming. It’s an all-hands scramble with daily meetings, focusing on the first surge of OR/SV single tracking June 4-16, in conjunction with other modes. We will be word out next week about when and how we could use volunteers.
The first known needs will be for experienced riders to assist with Bike Trains from EFC to Rosslyn, with stops at/near each Metro station in the corridor. The plan now is for 3 morning inbound runs, and one outbound PM run, daily for two weeks. Tentative start times at EFC are 6:30am, 7am, & 7:30am; 5:30pm at Gateway Park.
Working on extensive and beefed up signage, too.
Plus extra racks near Ballston.
Expanded CaBi capacity will be added at both EFC & Ballston.Though no PBLs at present.

KeymasterI think the bigger disservice done here is by the digital headline writer. Comparing the headlines (which is all most people read anyway):
Online: How safe is bike commuting? Perhaps less than you think
Paper: Is biking a better option? A look at the pros and cons of DC bike commuting as long-term Metro work loomsI’m sure the latter is too long for a mobile device-friendly layout, but more importantly for the digital editor, it wouldn’t induce nearly as many clicks.
