ParticipantI rode today in the rain. “First time leaving home when it was raining.” i tend to chicken out when it is raining but today I didn’t want to. I need to get over my fear of it being slippery and me being cold. It went well, it was not to cold out this morning. Which explains my bravery. Only one area where they are doing road construction where it was really muddy but I just went slow and carefully. Not to bad a ride. Put my muddy bike on the bus at huntington and rode in. If it isn’t raining on the way home I will ride all the way home. I need a good ride. Thanks Freezing saddles without it, I would never have been on my bike in the rain in the winter.

Participantcan we have a link to the leader board at the top of one of the pages like we had last year. I found that wicked helpful and motivating. just got back from a quick 5 mile ride around the neighborhood. Not cold out at all today. Tuesday will be scary.

okay Jan1, 174 lbs, and I am only 5’4. I cannot believe I weigh this much but it is reality. I just keep telling myself muscle weighs more than fat. Yikes. need to be good this year. But I in. My goal is always 135 I have never reached that goal but it is there none the less.

ParticipantFreezing saddles is on. Had the 5K race in reston this morning, ran 3.1 miles in 32 minutes and then came home took a nap and went out to ride a quick loop around the neighborhood. I wanted my points.
See you all at the happy hour tomorrow.

ParticipantI like this thread as a women 50+ with LUPUS I know all about getting tired. I will say I cracked the code when my diet improved. I became vegetarian, mostly vegan (Sometimes when I am out I will eat something that isn’t strickly vegan, they mostly get me with cheese) I found that my diet made all the difference in my sleep cyles and in my ability to recover. I gave up a lot of good things but the rewards are fantastic. Also I have the distinct advantage of not really being concerned with speed. I run a nice comfortable 9-10 minute mile and when i bike I generally take my time and enjoy the sights. It is not very often that I push really hard on my daily rides or commutes. Occasionally at races I push a bit more but mostly I just enjoy the ride and marvel at the fact that I can do it and I enjoy it. Life is short so I try to enjoy the moments.

ParticipantMade my pre freezing saddles ride this morning. Everything is warm except my toes. I need some shoe covers. Ride to the Metro about 7 miles put the bike on the rex bus for the ride into fort Belvoir. People in cars look at me like I am crazy on the maryland side of the bridge.

ParticipantThanks for the advice, I signed up with the charter group you recommended. Now I just have to work out the logistics of getting to the end point to meet the bus. I would love to have my husband drive me but i don’t think he would look forward to a week hanging out in Iowa waiting on me to return. I will probably just rent a suv and put the bike in the back and drive myself. I am looking forward to this adventure. It will give me lots of incentive to stay on my bike this winter.

Participantyaaa, lets hope I can at least get more miles than I did last year. I have plans to be braver but one never knows I am okay with most things except rain. I hate cold and rain.

ParticipantCan I ask you What do you mean by a separate camp? Does this mean you are set up in a different place than the other bikers?

ParticipantI haven’t worked out the logistics of it yet but we shall see. If all else fails I will be shipping my bike and flying in. Very exciting adventure.

ParticipantI ride along the Mount Vernon trail towards mount vernon, I think it is cold both ways. Although this year i plan on using the Rex bus at huntington metro as the part way option on cold cold days. That way I only have to ride out of my neighborhood and over the woodrow wilson bridge. Then my commute is only about 14 miles total.
