We spotted someone transporting a potted plant via bikeshare (photo taken through windshield at a red light). Well played, sir, well played.

Personal victory! I passed someone struggling up 15th Street in front of the Treasury Building. Two weeks ago I was the one being passed!

You: The cyclist in a kit this morning, who turned west onto East Capitol (legally) in front of me. With us travelling due west, the sun was at our backs.
Me: Wishing I had been able to catch up with you to tell you that your shorts were full-on Lululemon completely see-through in the sun. Fortunately not the chamois part.

How quickly do they fill up? I thought about using it, but didn’t want to get stuck locking up to a meter for hours.

I have never seen it too full, even during big games like Opening Day.

I used bikeshare to get to the game last night and I won’t be doing it again. All of the docs were full within a mile of the stadium and there didn’t seem to be any effort at all to balance any of the stations. I circled around aimlessly for what seemed like eternity checking the spotcycle app every few minutes to no avail.

Yeah, you have to arrive early. I wish CaBi could set up a permanent corral in collaboration with the bike valet. Since they seem to have ruled that out, I gave them lots of encouragement in social media when they offered the corral on opening day.

Do people tip the bike valet?

I give them $1 or $2. The same as taking a Circulator round trip but so much faster and more fun. Plus the guys are awesome.

I heard that Eastern Market Pitstop sent out an email to registrants canceling and maybe bouncing to next week

Yup, next Friday. Here is the text of the email:

You are receiving this email because you registered for Bike to Work Day at the Capitol Hill at Eastern Market Metro pit stop. Because of the driving downpours this morning, WE HAVE DECIDED TO POSTPONE THE CAPITOL HILL AT EASTERN MARKET PIT STOP UNTIL NEXT FRIDAY, MAY 23 AT THE SAME TIME, 7:30-9:30AM . I know we originally said “rain or shine” but it’s raining so hard that we wouldn’t even be able to setup our tent for shelter.

Next week’s pit stop will be a scaled back version of the event, with just tee shirt pickup, some snacks and we will still raffle off our giveaways. Here are some other options if you want to pick up your tee shirt prior to next Friday, May 23:

    1. You can pick up your tee shirt at our office TODAY, between 7:00AM and 2:00PM. (see below for directions)
    2. You can pick up your tee shirt any time during the week next week, May 19 – 23 between normal business hours given that someone is in our office. Please email me to make arrangements.

I am sorry to have to postpone the event, but it is just not safe in this heavy rain. Thank you all for understanding.

No doubt, it’s a serious issue. I’m just thinking they’re going to need to re-lay that concrete bus pad (or replace it with standard asphalt now that it’s part of the cycle track). But maybe they can patch it temporarily.

I’ve been wondering if that’s what you meant. I wouldn’t call them potholes as much as the road collapsing. Either way, should be fixed, but I’m not sure reporting them as potholes will be fruitful since I suspect it’s a different kind of fix.

I will call, though, since I commute there daily. They’re far enough on the side of the road that I personally haven’t felt endangered, but I also have thicker, hybrid tires and go pretty slow down that stretch.

FWIW, syncing working perfectly for me (using Endomondo), even when I’ve gone in and edited my Endomondo rides. Also, the site got a nice shout out on the Women & Bicycles Facebook group today. We like it better than previous years–easier to find different leaderboards, and I like being able to search for people by name.

Best – With minor surgery that would make biking off-limits for many months looming, decided to bike as much as possible early in the season. I rode 80 miles in June, mostly commuting, a personal best! (Don’t laugh, people that do that in one or two days!)

Worst – All that cycling apparently caused a persistent injury in my foot, which showed up in early July. I’ve been working with a podiatrist for the remainder of the year. Just bought a pair of cycling shoes, which we think will help protect the injured joint (thanks for the 10% discount for WABA members, City Bikes!)

I haven’t been commuting regularly due to injury, but the above-normal temperatures today inspired me to ride part of the way home (yay for bikeshare for facilitating a spur-of-the-moment commute) and I was able to check out the zebras in person. Wow! Pictures do not do them justice. They are much taller than they look in pictures. I would NOT want to drive my car over them. Now let’s get them installed properly!

Well, this is probably unworkable for some reason, but why not add a painted stripe so that the boxes are 7 1/2 feet long, and then reinstall the zebras in the new boxes? This would solve the aesthetics that DDOT has cited, and would allow for installation of the zebras within the manufacturer’s specifications.

I mean, since the painting was already done incorrectly, it doesn’t have to be redone to the 10′ plan, which was probably conceived before the zebras were an option.
