A lot of people didn’t get the Car Free Day memo, apparently…

Alas, I was in Houston – where even people who don’t drive have cars.

Rode in today. Just a few old remnants of a bottle near the airport so I didn’t put the broom into service. I haven’t hidden one in the bushed because I am afraid it will end up like DBBs…

I have reconciled my loss. The broom is free.

Where is your evidence that we did?

The thing is though, Japanese society places such a high bar on customer service, engineering, and safety in its products that users will likely trust that there’s no need to worry.

Point of order, Ms. Kitty. Air bags?

Rolling north on 15th just past the entrance to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, a longtail ebike rolls past me, slides to the other side of 15th and salmons for about 150 feet, blows the light at Independence (while salmoning), slides to the correct side of 15th and continues to the north.

Alas, the motorists likely only saw a bicycle and not an e-bike, so I got tarred with that brush.

Maybe we could get WABA to add that to the cue sheet. It would only add a few more pages! :)

Was pretty sweet this morning. The current lady in my life, Irma, forced me to do the entire ride before sun up, with no Freezing Saddles points. I was rewarded with this just north of Gravelly Point.

HUD seems somewhat behind the curve, at least here at the HQ. They want receipts and accept the form for reimbursement twice a year. So far, I’ve submitted two requests, totaling about $200 and have seen no reimbursement. They certainly didn’t have any problem taking me off the transit subsidy program however.

I’ve been reminding the program managers of the issue and will likely bump it up in the next month or so.

Did anybody see who was at the Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial about 5 pm today? I rode by and there was a full protective detail (well dressed in dark suits without umbrellas) surrounding the memorial.

I’m close to being in on this, just need to firm up some details. I don’t know about a costume though as my ignorance of TMNT is boundless, but I really do need to witness the display.

Maybe there could be a worm or snake costume in your (and your recumbent’s) future.

Wait, wouldn’t the barriers on the inside of turn be the MUP barrier? Did the driver just hit and bounce off? They seemed normal this morning…

Some of the “bike rack” fencing alongside the trail up to the bridge got taken out.

If you encounter glass on the bridge just north of the CC Connector, the longer bridge near the fence, and along the fenceline; please call the NPS (numbers below) and post details below (location, date and who you called). That will help us chronicle the input to the NPS.

My senator wasn’t on the list. I sent him this note:

“I saw a copy of a joint letter on the I-66 bike lanes signed by a number of Senators and Delegates (dated 11 August). While the letter was signed by Senators McPike, Favola, Howell, Wexton, Surovell, and Marsden; I didn’t see your signature.

Now that you have received information from VDOT, can you please share your position on the bike lane along I-66, specifically the VDOT concept of putting the lane inside the sound wall?

If you think that is a sound strategy, please provide the basis for your decision.

    Thanks”

    His letter is attached.
