We better start charging admission then!

Can I change my RSVP? I wasn’t planning on making it, but with this kind of generous patronage, I might just have to make it happen. That’s a lot of nachos. ;)

Shouldn’t there be a “failure to obey traffic signs or signals” law to fall back on?

    “I didn’t see ’em.”

Seems to be a legally valid legal defense for motorists. If it gets em out of manslaughter cases, it will surely excuse them from being in the wrong lane. :

We have a similar discussion in my family in the summer about moving to a cooler climate. :D

So does the metric system. That doesn’t seem to have derailed us from archaic measurements yet.

I almost spat out my hot chocolate from laughing there. Most people have been quasi-considerate due to the conditions, but I did have an angry motorist in a German luxury vehicle honking his horn and driving aggressively around me (I was in the Bike/Bus lane). Never ceases to amaze me the calculus (or lack thereof) that must go on in the motorist’s head … “to save 30 seconds on my commute, it is acceptable to kill or injure a cyclist” … of course, if he actually did that, the time in court would greatly outweigh 30 seconds, but since he overpaid for a mode of transportation, other road users rights are nullified …

Calculus is way too advanced for most of these types. Basic arithmetic is probably a stretch for some of them.

I had a guy behind me at a light roll down his window to tell me to get in a bike lane. I turned around and told him I was in a bike lane and pointed to the sign. He looked at it, rolled up the window, and left me alone. That was fun.

    Case in point.

But I’d you go by the 24-hour clock, you don’t write your dates that way.

Not necessarily. Phone, computer, and wristwatch times all set to 24-hour clock for me, and I write my dates the ‘murican way.

If I’m not mistaken, the same is true for US military and aviation.

I was surprised to see as many riders out as I did, especially given the relatively late time that I left home – around 9 AM. I counted 7 others. I was surprised how much snow there was, too. Drivers were calm and sane. In fact, along Commonwealth they weren’t going much faster than me. I was rolling at 10-12 mph, cars were maybe doing 15, so all passes were as if in slo-mo.

The ride in was a blast. I was happy to go slow and easy and just enjoy. Took a couple pictures. Soaked in the winter beauty. Sadly, one picture had to be of a National Park Police cruiser parked AGAIN in their favorite spot in a crosswalk by the Jefferson Memorial. I will gladly send it along and be the squeaky wheel again. At least it had icicles on the front bumper, so it kind of looked pretty, even as it angered me.

    Ramblingrider – bikeshare!

I’m pretty sure I saw someone doing just that this morning in Del Ray. Looked like a rider I normally see on a road bike, but this AM he was on a CaBi. It’s a good strategy, and you’re not having to worry about cleaning up the salty slushy that gets on your frame and drive train.

    This. (http://www.aerostich.com/thermometer-clip.html)

The thing I miss most about switching to GPS and not using a traditional bike computer anymore (most recently had had the Planet Bike Protege 9) is having a thermometer to refer to during rides. Came across this little guy. Plan to clip it onto handlebars so I can know how freezing my saddle is. :)

My “shop” is a bit more modest, though it was improved greatly by the gifting this Xmas of a folding repair stand – pictured. It’s the laundry/utility/storage room in the basement of my apartment building. It does the trick, though. :)
