Because of the fog and mist and wet roads, a pleasant and warmish commute.

ParticipantI like the NOAA Weather app I have on my Android a lot. The graph’s a little harder to read on it than on a full size computer monitor, but the app I use now has a tabular representation of the same date as a view option, so that’s helpful. I do agree that the site can seem a little clunky for some things, but for straight up forecast down to the hour, including wind speed, etc., I find it hands down to be my favorite, and I help pay for it already, so I might as well take full advantage of it… and avoid annoying ads. Plus now that I use it all the time, I know how to navigate the page pretty easily, even if it might not be 100% user-friendly or intuitive all the time. In this case, familiarity breeds ease of use, not contempt.

Participantweather.GOV FTW!

ParticipantNeat idea. I already do something similar through the Higi website, formerly Earndit. You get points for miles ridden (or walked/run), and can use them for discounts at online merchants OR donate the points towards a charity goal. I always do the latter. My favorite charity there Deep Springs International, which works to provide access to clean water for Haitians, but I’ll have to check this out, too. Higi’s nice in that I can just use my Garmin and sync up miles from pre-existing services like MapMyRide (no Strava support yet, though I think it’s in the works), but I’d be OK tracking my rides on my phone if there’s a worthwhile charity I could be helping.

ParticipantMy evening commute grew an extra leg. I rode from the office to my other part time job for an evening shift. Then shortly after midnight, it was finally time to head home. It’s amazing how quiet the streets can be at night. I ride from Clarendon to Del Ray between 12:15 and 12:45, and I think I only got passed by eight cars. So tranquil and quiet. Almost eerily so, but very nice.

ParticipantNice job, guys! I’m fresh back from a week with in-laws in California sans velo, but I’m back at it today and have weekend commuting duty ahead, so I’ll stop slacking and finally start pulling my weight around here again!
Roll on, niners!

ParticipantIt would be way easier to make jokes about this thread if Robert Byrd or Strom Thurmond were still around.

Nope. Not I. I’ve got an early AM flight to sunny Californ-eye-ay. 65 degrees every day as far as the eye can see on the forecast. Just hope it all melts before my return next week.
BTW, Sorry Team 9’ers. I will likely have limited to no access to a bike while out there, so I shan’t be contributing points again until next Wednesday…

ParticipantCan’t do any of these fun rides, but I’m all orientated for a new post time job as of today, which means more commuting days and miles, including the next three days. On top of all that my ride is from Del Ray to Clarendon, which means i actually get to climb on one of my commutes now. I’ve previously had an embarrassingly flat commute which often got calculated as zero feet of gain by Strava.
Which is to say… hooray for team contributions.

So my picture shows up if you search on #bafs2015 in Instagram, but it’s not finding its way to the Freezing Saddles home page.
Is that because it has to be associated with my ride first? I haven’t uploaded my ride; I usually do that in the evenings, but sometimes it’s a day or two later. Will Strava still figure it out?Yes. And Yes. I think any Instagrams posted during a ride and up to 30 minutes after sync up with a Strava activity once the rise is up. It can take a few minutes for the sync to take place, even if you manually force the sync using the tool under the wrench icon to sync photos.

And if it’s a day-old photo will it be skipped over for fresher ones?
I think so.

Good News: We are now 8 strong on the strava club
Bad News: 8th person not synced up on leaderboard…I’ll get to the bottom of this today.Join me Monday night at the Science Club at 1136 19th Street NW for a team happy hour at 6 pm. I noticed several members work not to far away from there so hopefully several of us can meet up and talk strategy. If you can like (or elite…whatever works for me) this post to confirm your attendance I can get a nice headcount.
Side Note: Even though we are 3 team members short on the FS Leaderboard, we are within 100 points of the 7th placed team. You guys are seriously rocking it.
Like for message content. We are rocking it. Glad we picked up an 8th on the Strava page. Welcome, Kevin O!
I’m a no-go on happy hour, though. I do work in the area, but I’m only working Tues-Thurs these days anyway. Plus, with a little kid at home and a another part-time job starting the end of this week, I’m usually in a rush to get home or (potentially) to my other gig ASAP after I leave here. Thanks for trying to organize something, though! Hope others can make it.

Planet-X seems to be having a sale on studly tires:

I’ve bought stuff from On-one (their sister company), and once you hit around 100 bucks, I think the price of shipping drops to $6.
That’s a sweet deal. I just put together a basket out of curiousity, and a pair of those Schwalbe studded tires comes shipped to the US for a total of 35 quid, ~53 bucks. Price per tyre, er, tire, is cheaper than first shows up on the screen, too, since VAT isn’t charged for overseas buyers like us Yanks. If I didn’t already have a pair of Nokians I like, I’d be all over this deal.

ParticipantI’d go as wide as you can. Wider tires will do better over fresh snow. dkel’s assessment is pretty spot on.
