I swear I had a headwind in both directions for my breakfast run this morning. However, since my devious Top Secret spying has determined that Lentement considers me an “enemy agent,” I was not about to let the weather deter me from my usual bike ride (plus a little extra, just to be annoying). ;)

    My rides today:

    Noon – Clear and warm
2:00 – Mostly still clear and warm, with a bit of a sprinkle at the very end of the ride.
6:00 – Raining, but not hard, and no scary nearby lightning.
9:00 – Windy and a bit cold. However, the headwind just made me expend some extra calories, as opposed to being strong enough to create worries of being knocked over. And heaven knows I’ve biked in much colder this winter.

Overall assessment: My refusal to pay attention to weather forecasts is once again justified. I got in all the rides I planned, without a whole lot of difficulty.

Thanks for the warning! This will be important for almost anyone coming to the final BAFS Happy Hour by bicycle.

They did a nice job putting up warning cones before you arrived at the zig-zag detour. The closure looked permanent to me.

It could be worse. I am totally crushing the “Tortoise” category!

I started laughing reading the top 20 rankings. You know you have a crappy bike when you place high in time on the saddle and elevation gain, but not in speed or points. Yay for pts after sunset too.

I’ll be there! And anyone who wants to meet at Heavy Seas beforehand, let me know.

My ongoing solution is partly this, and partly ignoring weather reports. So far, I haven’t missed a day of BAFS, so I guess it’s working.

My solution is to cross my fingers and hope for the best. But I may try to get into work early so I can leave before the storms roll through.

What a difference a week makes! Last Monday, I was having to walk my bike to the nearest allegedly plowed street, from which I made a white-knuckle bike ride to the Metro at a time when even Metrobuses weren’t out due to the road conditions. Today, I bicycled from Bethesda to Alexandria in my shirt sleeves, over clear, dry trails. There is some hope of spring!

Heavy Seas accepts reservations. So maybe once we have a better idea of how many people are interested, we can do that.

I believe I’m interested. Wonder if we have to choose a venue that doesn’t serve alcohol to avoid overcrowding? Or maybe try out the new Heavy Seas at 18th and Oak in Rosslyn next to the world famous Bike Arlington offices.

I’ll be coming in from Bethesda, so I’m planning on grabbing a bite to eat before the parade. Anyone up for joining me? Maybe at the new Heavy Seas at 18th & Oak St? I can even be sportsmanlike and not insist that any member of Lentement mais Sûrement who attends arrive only by car or public transit!

You can reply here, or send me a private message.

Most of the CCT was passable between Georgetown and Bethesda. However, I still had to walk the perennially problematic section just north of the tunnel, shown below:

That is just all kinds of wrong! But I’m still in, if they still want volunteers.

Thank you so much for this! Here’s today’s evidence that the problem is continuing:

Nice try! But the Sloppies are all practitioners of Rule 5, and not so easily deterred.

I just edited the initial post, having found the answer: The competition ends on March 19. Of course, nothing stops us from engaging in high level crazy shenanigans after the competition ends. My only hope is that it doesn’t result in any more broken clavicles!

Since the wrap party isn’t until a little later (April 3rd, right?), I respectfully submit that Freezing Saddles ends at midnight, March 23rd. That will enable the competition to end on a weekend, which encourages high level crazy shenanigans. Which, as you know, is the very essence of winter riding.
