ParticipantLooks like my commute home in the summer just got a little bit longer.

ParticipantDirt seems to be very well “liked”

ParticipantIt was definitely a day for “just sit up and enjoy as best you can” kind of commute for me this morning. I was nose into the wind for 10+ miles, add to that the puddles starting to freeze over and I was setting no speed records.

ParticipantI saw the FFX ark authority out this morning pulling a hot air blower down the WOD in Reston. I’m assuming that they were trying to get rid of the thinnest spots of black ice. Nice to see. I hope they will up their efforts at spots that actually need it once we get an actual accumulation.

ParticipantSo I rode home yesterday from Reston in what was probably the heaviest part of the snow. It was great fun. one out except the other crazies and a couple of very put out walkers. It was starting to stick to the trail by the time I got to the center of Vienna, and by the time I got to Falls Church, it was completely covered.
I did enjoy my own visions of me as Belgian Hard Man(tm) training in the snow.
Either way I thought discretion is the better part of valor, and, not having studded tires, I would forego the risk of black ice this morning.
**note to self; knock snow off bike *before* bringing it inside**.

ParticipantNice. I like the non-adversarial tone, and 5 feet from parked cars was even more room than I thought was appropriate. Thanks for the heads up.

ParticipantFor someone closer Bilenkey in Philly does paint. A friend of mine had couplers installed and his bike repainted at the same time by Bilenekey. They did a beautiful job. I dont know however if they do carbon.

ParticipantA couple of years ago, my wife and I rode around the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. The Bay of Fundy is known to have some of the largest tidal variation in the world. Plus it’s not exactly hugely populated. Made for great riding and amazing scenery. We started in Wolfville, took a day out at the tip of the peninsula of Scot’s Bay (which is definitely worth the day), then went east towards Turo, and then back west towards the mouth of the bay at Cape Dor, where there is a light house with rooms for rent where you can look back to the Peninsula at Scots Bay.

My mindset was a “trip” was the distance to reach my destination, whether that destination was work or home. I can certainly understand either way, frankly I think the # of trips is a moving metric no matter how it’s measured.
Personally, I work off the purpose of the ride. Commute is to and from. Dinner ride is to and from. Both separated by hours before completion. A training ride, followed by an errand ride, followed by a ride to dinner would be 3. But that’s just me.

ParticipantMy wife uses platform pedals only and another friend has a townie with platform pedals. Both swear by MKS Lambda pedals
