As of 3:30 a.m.., when I got in, the temperatures had not dropped below freezing. I did not see or encounter any ice. Pavement was wet in some places, dry in others. (Most was a combination of the two, as it dries out.) This was true on the roads and the MVT. The wettest pavement was the stretch of Maine Avenue SW that was paved in December.

Even if the temperatures drop, things should not be bad for those of you sleeping in.

After I slept in , I got going around 0700. Between Great Falls in Falls Church City and Stafford St in Arlington, I encountered only two slippery spots on the W&OD and Custis: the bridge over the creek just east of Little Falls is snow-covered and icy, and I hit a wet spot just east of the Fairfax connection with the Custis. Otherwise, it was pretty much a normal ride in.

Same here coming in the W&OD from Sterling to downtown @3am. Only ice I saw was on the arch bridge over Rt 7 and the little bridge near Little Falls in FC. I was expecting much worse.

The dead deer in the middle of the trail at Cedar Lane was NOT my handiwork either.

Same for the ride from Bethesda. CCT and roads were mildly damp. ramp up to the bridge of the water company was iced up, that’s it.

Overnight it barely got to freezing and the W&OD/4MRT/MVT were either clear or just damp, no ice issues. The wooden bridges continued to be covered with crunchy snow/ice, but I just took slowly and had no issues. The sun is out now and we’re supposed to get back up into the low 50s by this afternoon so whatever is left should melt off. Glad I didn’t invest the time in putting on the studded tire last night.

0705-0715, W&OD between Herndon (MM20) and Reston (MM18) was damp but clear, no ice. Extremely foggy and muggy though. Glad I had my fender.

The early morning fog was awesome though. I rode the Monster bike in so that I can enjoy it on the hills home. I Winter Miles!!!!

7:30 am there was a nice “mist” on the lower 4 Mile Run and the Potomac. Didn’t see any “fog” either.

Actually more ice out today than yesterday. I didn’t slide on any, although the FC bridges were definitely covered. 1600 lumens of light shows a lot of sparkle on the pavement once it ices up.
