Being a comparability new commuter, I bow to the greater knowledge of the peanut gallery at large; with the light snow falling now, the warm ground and the freezing temps over night, how slippery do you all think the WOD and Custis will be tomorrow??

As of 3:30 a.m.., when I got in, the temperatures had not dropped below freezing. I did not see or encounter any ice. Pavement was wet in some places, dry in others. (Most was a combination of the two, as it dries out.) This was true on the roads and the MVT. The wettest pavement was the stretch of Maine Avenue SW that was paved in December.

Even if the temperatures drop, things should not be bad for those of you sleeping in. :D

I saw the FFX ark authority out this morning pulling a hot air blower down the WOD in Reston. I’m assuming that they were trying to get rid of the thinnest spots of black ice. Nice to see. I hope they will up their efforts at spots that actually need it once we get an actual accumulation.

There has been work this week on the 4 Mile Run Trail just east of George Mason before where the power lines cross. Over the past couple months waters has been seeping over this section and was forming ice. Monday there was work being done with some type of drainage pipe on the south edge of the trail. This morning a truck was parked across the trail and workers were picking up orange cones. The drainage pipe is now buried and there is a layer of gravel over it (French drain?). I’m not sure what the issue was, but it will be interesting to see if this solves the water seepage issue. If it works, maybe the NPS can be convinced to do something similar with the Mt Vernon Trail section just south of Memorial Bridge that has been seeping water and was bad ice again this morning.
