Interesting. And what is the surface like farther out from DC? I’m familiar with the packed dirt/gravel closer in to DC. Is it like that the whole way?
Since I’m without a CX bike, is this a carbon road bike with thicker tires on it kinda of ride? Or more of a 29er with slick tires and clip on aerobars kind of ride?
At 15 mph average that’s about 22 hours of moving time. Who are we getting to sag us for that long?
Do you start first thing in the morning so that you’re riding in the middle of the night when you are most tired, or do you wait until after your afternoon nap to ride in the evening when you are fresh?
If your just doing the C&O from Cumberland its “only” 184 miles. 12.5 hours of moving time @ 15mph. That is definitely doable. Start at 4 or 5 am, you’d be done before 8 even with stops.

ParticipantI got to see Liz this morning and DCV, which is becoming all to infrequent as of recent.

ParticipantI hang ours like Consularrider does. Flip/flopped back to front so that I can get more in a tighter space. I’ve been doing that for a number of years now and even the bikes that see significantly less use show no sign of out-of-round wheels.

I would’ve worn the orange or the red BTWD shirt, but they were sacrificed to the bike cleaning gods

I still can’t get over the guy riding with his seat/saddle backwards and the nose (now a tail) pointed almost straight up! That and the all too frequent helmet on backwards.
I’ve seen that guy!! I didnt know what to make of it other than “hey if it works for you….”

Only you could make my bike feel petite and delicate.

ParticipantSeen last night;
One giant pink fluffy princess (and I mean that in the best way) on a giant bright orange full suspension mountain tandem with neon green wheels.culimerc

Im riding from Ballston to Vienna Metro, does that cross your route?
We hit the WOD between WFC and Dunn Loring metro. I would imagine that you break off after cedar somewhere. We should be rolling through there about 720 ish

I do a similar commute, from Westover to Reston, near South Lakes and Reston Pkwy — 16 miles for me (though I can make it 15 if I go slightly more directly, but less pleasantly). I ride it daily, though I leave my car at work so Monday and Friday are only one-way for me.
I ride frequently with GuyContinental, as I like the excuse to leave a little early. We do cx out in LFP weather/trail condx permitting. It is fantastic. I have been doing this commute regularly for a few or 4 years now, but I would say it’s a pretty easy distance once you settle in — and (in my case, anyway) get bike fit nuances worked out. Now I look for ways to add more miles to/from work or just ways to change it up. It is a very pleasant ride against the traffic and no sun in the eyes. The money savings is palpable with tolls and an hour commute tends to compare reasonably with the car commute in evening rush hour.
You should hit us up for some singletrack cx am madness. There is no better way to start a workday. Also, you could take a detour to go up Hunter Station, which is a beautiful stretch of road (and a nice climb).
I do have a shower at work, which I really appreciate, but I know I could (and would) get by without a shower if needed. The giant wet wipes sound great. A casual dress code at work helps
Honz- what time do you guys roll through VA Ave/over 66 in the morning??
