It’s all taken care of. Go thundercats, go!

Hey All- this is my first year doing freezing saddles, with that said, I am open to handing over my captain title to someone with more seniority that knows the game.

I also like the idea of getting together, perhaps for a team ride?
Not sure about tracking down our missing teammates. But as the saying goes.. If you’re not first you are last.

Stacey: Just an FYI in case you look at this more often that at Strava: Your miles are showing up in Strava but NOT on the Freezing Saddles Leaderboard. Dickie mentioned that you might need to authorize freezing saddles to ‘see’ your Strava data. We have moved up 2 places since yesterday (though the margins are razor thin) and adding your prodigious miles would definitely bump us up several more spots in the standings.

I’m definitely up for an MLK meetup if folks are interested.

Whew – go away from the forum for a couple of days and things get active. Maybe I should take the hint.
I live in Fairfax, work downtown (Near Capitol hill). I’d love to do some team rides, but I can be a pain to plan with due to the demands of life.

Yeah Chris, I know your name is Chris–I remember you from real life AND strava life! I was trying to remember your screen name, because privacy concerns? Lol.

My dream is to attend the ending happy hour…keep your fingers crossed I can save the money!

I’ll cross my fingers and my toes. And I’m just glad I’m not eminently forgettable. But I also explain the ridiculousness of my screen name to avoid too much confusion at our first team meet up… we will be doing a team meet up, right? (Emma gets a pass, from me, at least)

Emma- I’m so glad you’re on our team. Are you planning to fly (or bike)in for the ending happy hour? It was great fun hanging out with you last year. I should clarify that my actual name us Chris, I’m no longer in the military, and John is no part of my actual name. CPTJohnC just an internet pseudonym that I’ve used for 25 years.

Thanks for getting us started. I’m a multi year veteran of freezing saddles but I only post middling miles. However, if you don’t already know, consistency (that is, riding every day or nearly every day) is one path to success. It might be sleazy, but a 1 mile ride every day if the week is worth 77 points, the equivalent of riding 67 miles one day a week. We need some big mile Eaters to win, but every ride matters.

I offer “team Un17 cycles” as a lame name suggestion.

I don’t know that I’ve ever been so sad to miss a HH. Sounds like it went really well. Now I just need to wait for my team captain to post an invite to our strava group… I promise that not all my riding will be sleaze.

Are there any left following happy hour? Or do I need to kludge together my own? Or, as seems most likely, I’ll just be BAFS2016 incognito.

Carol: Not to be stupid, but should I have gotten any kind of confirmation e-mail from my registration? I have one from the Strava group, but nothing that I could find from the BAFS registration website. I just want to make sure I don’t miss out

(And let me apologize now to my future teammates: I will almost certainly NOT be an every day rider this year, due to starting the year out of town, and without a bike).

The answer to this is easy, and requires a decision tree, but I don’t know how to make one in a forum post, so, I’ll give it a shot in text:

    1) Will she ride more than I will?

if answer to #1 is yes: 2) Will she be on my team?

If Answer to #2 is Yes: Then, barring physician recommendation not to, YES. BAFS2016 needs more amazing riders.

For the rest of the matrix:

If 1= YES and 2= NO then: NO– Way too risky. She needs to mend until at least Apr. 1.

If 1= NO and 2= YES then: NO — Way too risky. She needs to mend until at least Apr. 1.

If 1= NO and 2 = NO then: YES! BAFS2016 will be fun and she’ll be careful, right?

I’m in for a couple of ankle bands. And I will happily sponsor a Pointless Prize again this year. Maybe 2. Specifics to be determined at a later time, as usual.

This morning’s ride was interesting because I elected to see how the Tern would do over a long(er) distance (longest previous ride? 6 miles. This ride? ~14) The answer? Fine, but definitely won’t be making it a regular thing. 20″ wheels don’t roll as fast as 700c, and I was working harder to maintain pace, which even with the greater effort, was slower than normal.

But I have to admit, it wasn’t terrible. In fact, it was pretty great, because it was a bike ride.

My latest bike purchase (last month) was a Tern Link D7i. Why? because it was the only N+1 that I could justify to my wife. No, really it is because I spend a good deal of the year multi-moding in order to get my kids to school (Fairfax to DC is a bit far to ask them to ride by 7:30 in the morning). The Tern fits conveniently in the back of my prius while keeping the back seat available. Sure, I can put a bike on a rack on the back of the car, but that negatively impacts my fuel economy and isn’t nice to the bike, either.

Best discovery as I was writing this post? Schwalbe makes 20″ studded tires, so I should be A-OK for BAFS2016!

I rode in to the church to play a funeral today, and all I can say is I’m glad I have to put on vestments when I get to work, because although I brought a change of clothes with me…I forgot pants. Yep. Went to a funeral without pants. (I’m classy that way. :p ) My thanks to Rockford, who drove over with a pair of pants for me so I didn’t have to stay vested all afternoon.

It is posts like this that make it worthwhile to come catch up on forum reading. I’m so tempted to share this with my clergy friends.

For better or for worse (I think better), I bought a Tern Link D7i.
