What do you consider supplements? I use a sport drink mix in my water on really hot days, but that’s really because I sweat a LOT. I don’t always eat the right food to replace what I lose in the sweat. I’ll also use some of the “power gels” during a ride if I need extra energy. Other than that, I don’t use anything.

Please let me know if anyone is on Flickr and wants tagged, or feel free to tag anyone you see (not sure if the permissions are set right for that, let me know if not). Everyone should be able to download any picture they want too.

Thanks for such a great ride! That was, by far, one of the best rides I’ve done. Awesome support (thanks volunteers!) and the rest stops were perfectly spaced. I just wish my son wouldn’t have bailed on me :( But, he did have a girl come over last night, so I can’t blame him. For his age, he’s got his priorities right LOL.

Thanks for roping me in to a ride marshall, I needed a good vest! (thanks Mr. Blacknell for allowing me to keep it)

Here are the pix I took, some great ones in here

uh, not sure what made you think that, but spitting with someone even remotely behind you (her front and his back wheel were equal) is a bullshit coward move. What a dick. Sorry, dasgeh, that this pig spit on you. I hope karma does catch up to him.

If not, I’m going to try riding on the grass along the dike on the south side of the river I think.

This is exactly what I did this morning, and it worked out very well. Yesterday afternoon, I was able to ride on the dirt, but it was a little sticky. It looked a lot worse this morning, so I didn’t want to get mud-caked like I did last time I tried it. I rode through the grass on the north side of the river, then came up the hill where the equipment was all parked. Though pretty wet, the grass was easy enough to pedal through. I’ll probably just detour completely around if it rains a lot, or ruts start showing up through the grass from high traffic.

Here are some current pix, as of 10/4

I drove in yesterday, then rode home, leaving my car at work over night (safely locked in a gated and guarded compound). This morning was actually a pretty nice ride in. It wasn’t overly hot and the sprinkles kept me guessing what exactly was finding it’s way in to my mouth (bugs or water, you decide). It was made even sweeter when the guard (always friendly) mentioned the beltway was a hot mess with traffic this morning. Traffic? What traffic? LOLOLOLOolollollllllll

road traffic completely melted down today. I guess it’s been a while since it’s rained, and people were confused about what that wet stuff was all over the place.

I was super lucky today (knock on wood I don’t jinx my afternoon commute) and traffic on the inner loop was running smooth. Granted, I go in generally the opposite direction of the main rush, but there are a few spots where the inner loop can back up (Georgia Ave is typical). The traffic moved smoothly this morning because the heavy rain slowed everyone down. It’s amazing how much smoother the traffic runs when people are too scared to be overly aggressive.

I think I’m one of the few who can say my drive around the beltway this morning was somewhat pleasant.

not very nice, hopefully you’re just being goofy

Welcome, Pamela. I hope you get the info/story you’re looking for. I haven’t bought a cam yet, but the main reason I want to is due to the incidents I see captured and played on the news. I think it’s a great service to the cycling community, actually. The more of these incidents that are shown on the news, and the reckless individuals (whether cyclist or driver) are prosecuted, the more aware everyone is of the necessity for everyone to share the road. I think it also gives drivers pause when they’re thinking about cutting a cyclist off or driving dangerously because they’re thinking, “does that cyclist have a camera?”. I think the spread of helmet cams is actually a great safety boost.
