In which case, a little glue or duct tape needs to be added to the cutting method.

Which tension meter are you using? If you are using the Park-tools, then they should have provided a chart. Every spoke/lacing pattern has different tensions. Also, for a clydesdale build you want to run the tensions at the top-end as I’d mentioned a bit ago.
Yes, it’s the Park tool one. So all those numbers on the chart are the recommended range? I thought it was just a conversion chart from what the tension meter reads to kilograms force. For a 2.0mm spoke, the range they list is from 53Kgf to 173Kgf. That’s a pretty wide range, so was specifically trying to figure out what my rims should be at. Yes, I’m a clyde, and I put a lot of extra weight on the bike too (rack, full pannier, etc**).
I can’t find anything on Alex Rims website for the DC25 spoke tension, but there are other rims listed there. Many of the spoke questions they have are answered with “we don’t know, we send it to the bicycle manufacturer who put their own spokes in”. So, I’ve emailed Jamis to see if they can answer me. Currently, the readings I was getting are all around “22”, which is around 86Kgf. The range the chart has listed goes from 53Kgf to 173Kgf.
** I just realized I might want to balance my load. I was using 1 pannier because the second pannier seemed needlessly heavy if I could fit everything in one. I don’t have a problem with the bike being off balance, but now I’m considering the force I’m putting on the back rim. I might need to balance it….

ParticipantHere’s my “fun bike”
26AUG12 004 by certifried, on FlickrAnd my commuter. It’s no coincidence that it looks like Greenbelt’s. He let me ride his, and I was immediately impressed enough to buy one. Proteus made me a great deal, too, so if you’re looking for a commuter bike make sure to head up to see them
(had to get the plug in lol)

ParticipantThat’s my commuter route, when I can manage it. Love Sligo Creek! That Parkway, even during the week, doesn’t have a ton of traffic. What traffic there is travels fairly slow, usually.

Ended up taking Jeff up on his wheel offer since Jamis is dealing with the hurricane and nor’easter storm. So back in business, but man are those vittoria tires a serious PITA to take off/put on.

ParticipantSmacked the alarm off at 00:dark:30 this morning. Went back to sleep. Now I’m not sure if I’m depressed because I didn’t ride, or wanting to ride because I’m depressed. Either way, there’s only one solution. Ride.

With a helmet light, you can simply look away (down or to the side) if you are worried about blinding oncoming cyclists or peds.
This is hard for me. I always tend to make eye contact with the person and offer some sort of greeting, even if it’s just a smile. After the pass, I realize the look on their face wasn’t, in fact, a return of my warm smile. It was the look of blind anger.

ParticipantI still have nightmares about that ice storm years back. I was working in Quantico, commuting to Mount Airy (Maryland). 75 miles each way. I had left about 4pm, a little early that day, because I knew the storm was coming. I made it to the “mixing bowl”, just as it was shut down. 95 north, at the fly over to the inner loop was completely closed down (as was the entire mixing bowl). I could actually see the accident. There was maybe a total of 10 cars in front of me, all stopped. I was already past the exit, with absolutely no way of turning around. There was no shoulder as those big concrete barriers were next to the road. I was completely stuck, and sat there for 6 hours. I ended up having to dump out a bottle of windshield washer fluid so I could piss in the jug. Luckily I had a good cell phone, plenty of gas, and no medical issues. I got home around midnight that evening, an 8 hour commute.

Participantfinally, someone is doing the helmet cam correctly!
They have a twitter feed you can ask questions on, https://twitter.com/spectacam
“Spectacam will be designed to pass at least an IP55 (ingress protection rating) which will make it dust and water resistant.”
I’m excited about this, I’ve wanted a camera for a while but don’t really like the GoPro form factor. I like the Contour cameras more, but this spectacam thing is perfect. Front and rear cameras, with the adjust-ability, sleek form factor, decent IP rating, phone controlled… too good to pass up.

The most ridiculous thing I found was the amount of advertising in Tysons Corner (mall) for what I think was those HOT lanes (or maybe it was the new EZPass stuff). Is that taxpayer money being used to fund advertising for a transit “improvement”?
the HOT lanes are government owned, but operated by a private company for 75 years – source: WTOP this morning, I don’t know much more than that. Being from Maryland, I don’t care enough to research it :p lol

Rod nailed it, a bike shop that really DOES care! I’m good though, Jeff, thanks. Not commuting too much lately, and can use the Trek for the few days I do. Thanks though! It’s truly appreciated. See you Saturday and Sunday for sure!
