Hi Everyone, get excited–this is the one you’ve been waiting for!

We’ve got lots of blinky lights, reflective pant straps and reflective safety vests to give out to the ninjas that may be caught out after dark after the Daylight Saving Time change this coming weekend and we need your help in passing them out!

For those who helped out last year, we’re going to be following the same basic routine as last year. We’re planning on setting up trail side and nicely accosting anyone who comes by with free gear to get them seen!

Volunteers will be needed to help flag down riders and runners, install lights, and answer any questions. It’s a fun time (Pete makes it especially fun) and you get to meet lots of other forum regulars! We’ll even set you up with some extra lights and straps to take a long with you to pass out in travels. Here are some photos from last year: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.216279175107273.48710.205971902804667&type=3

So, here are the dates and times that we are looking to do it:

    Monday, November 5th – Custis/Lynn St/Lee Highway/Mount Vernon Trail (4:30pm – 6:30 pm)

Thursday, November 8th – Intersection of Custis Trail and W&OD Trail, Mile Marker 4 (4:30pm – 6:30 pm)

    Thursday, November 15th – Intersection of W&OD Trail and Columbia Pike, Mile 1.5 (4:30pm – 6:30 pm)
(Anyone who can speak Spanish is encouraged to attend this one!)

Leave a quick reply on this thread, or send an email to info@bikearlington.com if you can make it. Come to one, or come to all three!

    See you out there!

Many thanks for the light assistance last night. I had some blinkies running, but my main light went kaput crossing the Memorial Bridge. I love it when a good plan comes together.

On the way home tonight i saw no less than 4 bikearlington vests on the Custis / WOD, and one runner with the red / white blinkies on his shoes. I think the BA light giveaway is working.

Also, it seemed like everyone was wearing yellow tonight, me included.

I saw more than a few people with BA blinky lights on while coming west on the Custis last night during the give away event. One lady had her dog well marked as well. Good to meet some of the regulars here and the folks that power Bike Arlington. Pete / Dirt was hard to miss, he and his way cool 2 wheeled PU truck were festooned with about 3000 lumens of blinkies.
Thanks again to Bike Arlington for looking out for all the people on the paths, riders and non riders alike. I am seeing the light now that I am doing more dusk and night ride and my shiny new Bike Arlington vest will see plenty of dark in the coming months. Have some extra red and white blinkies in the pocket carry bag to hand out to Ninjas when the opportunity arises.

I asked quite a few people where they got those sexy vests/lights. I got lots of laughs and happy answers.

Good work y’all. You make me happy.

See everyone who volunteered for tomorrow out there at the Columbia Pike crossing of the W&OD at 4:30!

This is the last planned event we have for Lights for Bikes.
