We have less than three pages of discussion on this matter. Has anything on this forum ever been decided in less than three pages?
I think we need three pages of discussion on whether three pages of discussion is sufficient!

ParticipantMore evidence as to why we need something akin to a completed ICC trail. There are no good E-W routes in Eastern Montgomery County. Randolph Road, a very high stress and apparently deadly road, is the “best” current option.

ParticipantAlso have not done any comparisons, and I’m definitely preaching for my own local bike shop, but I find that the folks at Proteus Bicycles in College Park do honest and quality work at an honest price.

ParticipantFor my “Do everything bike”, I’m a huge fan of my 38c Schwalbe Marathon Almotion tires. Designed as a touring tyre, I have only punctured twice in the last year with those things riding through PG County roads (did you know PG County doesn’t actively have a road sweeping contract????) and both times that sealant did it’s job and I was able to carry on (I’m set up tubeless).

If everyone hasn’t yet been convinced by rcannon100 and Sunyata’s proselytizing, let me add my voice (although too late for you to make it to DCCX this year). I was out there both days this past weekend, and had a great time racing and just hanging out. I saw so many people that I’ve met over the past year from the bike DC community, and met some people in person that I’ve only interacted with online here too. There are experienced racers like Sunyata and rcannon100, but also cross noobs like me, PeteD, good and evil Steves all competing. I met BrettL and brclose repping Proteus yesterday, and saw MrTinDC and Emm out there supporting and watching. Drevil was there taking some great photos. You have juniors racing, younger kids rolling around on strider bikes (and maybe doing the lil Belgians). I saw dasgeh and her family rolling deep, and other people from Freezing Saddles and various shops (shout out to Team Bikenetic for letting me squat in their area). It all just made me feel really lucky to have come across this community. Also, I may have seen/talked to you but didn’t drop your name here, in which case my bad (but you can maintain a little more internet privacy).
DCCX was so much fun, and it was so awesome meeting people, that I am now registered for BikeneticX. I am still amazed by how awesome the community is!

ParticipantJudd, let me grab my hacksaw – we can make you shorter!

ParticipantReason 2 will be all the more amusing for the rest of us!
@Steve O 181756 wrote:Reason 1) is being mitigated. Phuoc at Bike Club is putting a bike together from stuff we found lying around (this is literally true – we found a frame of a particularly intriguing color lying on the floor. Color is the most important characteristic, right?).
Reason 2) is still a problem.

ParticipantAssault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder would be the charges I’d attempt to pursue. That’s not a traffic offense, that’s criminal.

ParticipantI know that UCI requires tyres to be 33c or less for CX races…….. I’m interested in doing DCCX as a beginner (never done a CX race before) on my Jamis Renegade and likely need different tyres than my Schwalbe Marathon Almotions. Will I need a 33c tyre, or do you know if a fatter tyre would be accepted in the Men’s Cat 4/5 category?

Another reason to call your passes. This morning, I was making my usual turn from the NB MVT onto the 14th Street bridge. As I usually do, I stretched my left arm out to signal my turn. A fast quiet guy on a road bike chose that moment to pass me on the left without ringing or calling. As the Duke of Wellington said about Waterloo “It was a damned nice (IE close) thing” He passed inches from my hand.
Do I need to look back to check for passing bikes before signalling a left?
Here’s my take on it, and this may not be an appropriate position but whatever – eff that jerk. If this were a road, each side of the trail would be consider a single lane each direction. The jerk passed you at an intersection with no warning. I would not consider you liable for slowing, making a signal and proceeding when clear of oncoming traffic. It is the traffic behind you responsibility to not hit you when overtaking you. This is not a lane change where you are entering a lane occupied by a different vehicle. It is the responsibility of the vehicle behind to yield.

I finally completed the build of the sweet Habanero Ti frame that I bought from hozn. I had a ton of analysis paralysis about buying the parts. And then once I got them I put most of it together but was too intimidated by installing the hydraulic brakes and the bike languished in the corner.
Birru convinced me to bring it in to Conte’s in Old Town to finish it up. Just got it last night.
Damn, she’s a looker….

I feel your pain. We have a lot of 30 km per hour (18 mph) zones in Germany with speed cameras. These are not school zones, just residential neighborhoods, some on quite wide streets. I’m just waiting for the Consulate to get notification of my ticket on my bike.
Scofflaw cyclist ignoring the speedlimit…..
