With wintry weather predicted for tomorrow, it seems like the right time to start thinking about Freezing Saddles 2019 and one of my favorite aspects of the reindeer games: the identifier that allows FS2019 participants to spot fellow FS lunatics.
I’d like to stick with the neon green color we’ve used for the past three years but move away from zipper pulls and instead have something like a slap band or shoe clip. That way, if there are any extras after the end of FS2019, we’ll have something useful to hand out to ninja joggers on the trails.
I’ve listed some options in the poll, but I’d also welcome other suggestions. Please vote by Friday, November 23.
The poll is open to everyone who is thinking about (1) participating in FS2019, or (2) spectating from the sidelines.
P.S. If you were a FS2017 or FS2018 participant and have lost your (highly collectible!) zipper pulls, I still have extras available for $1 each. PM me to arrange details.

In an effort to be helpful and not just whiny, I went ahead and measured 2 slap bands bike Arlington gave me. The 12 inch one I cant use to hold my pants in since it’s not long enough, but the 14 inch one works well around my jeans or rain pants. Hopefully that’s a useful data point. My vote would change and be for velcro ones if the slap bands don’t come in a long enough size.

Funny – that’s precisely why I voted for Velcro instead of slap bands…

It’s fun to spot other participants and a great way to spread the word about FS.
I like the options you came up with for the poll.

And yet, I see no votes for “Something else (post a suggestion in the thread)”.

November 15, 2018 at 1:56 am #1091333jrenautParticipantWhat? No anti-change curmudgeons in here yet? Let me be the first.
I like the zipper pulls. They’re fairly distinctive, and a good way to start up conversations about biking with skiers who think they’re lift tickets or whatever.
And giving away extras to non-participants? This is blasphemy.

No point voting when four foot safety flag is such an obvious choice.

I need to change my vote. Especially if the lime green wigs have a thermal option for keeping my ears warm.
November 15, 2018 at 9:54 pm #1091365sjclaeysParticipantI reintroduce my idea last year of face tattoos.
