…..There is lots of police activity at the Grove Ave crossing, and the Wells Fargo bank on the corner of West St is all blocked by police. If I had to guess what happened, someone tried to rob the bank, and fled through the snow at that Grove Ave crossing; much of the police activity seemed to be forensic analysis of evidence in the snow there. No trouble passing through on a bike.

Participant7 Corners from FC:
Take Hilltop or Broad to Cherry – cross 50 at the light on Cherry.
Take the 50 access road up to the Shell station, then loop to the right around the Shell onto South Street
First left on Cedarwood
First left on Spring Terrace
2nd Right (T-intersection) on Aspen
Left on Sleepy Hollow
Right on Nicholson
Left on Castle
Castle takes you to the light on 7 with the Sunoco on one side and the Suntrust on the other side.I’ve done this route dozens of times – it avoids the entire carmageddon mess and drops you right into the shopping center with DFH and Bangkok Golden.

ParticipantMy cycling buddies gave it to me in honor of my squat legs. The name was bestowed when I was descending the steps from the overhang of the Paw Paw Tunnel a couple of years ago and one of them cracked up over my awkward little shuffle down the stairs and said “you look like Boo Boo! Want to go have a pic-a-nic?”

ParticipantIt was nice to see some sunshine this morning! Thanks bobco85 for the heads up that the Holmes Run Trail is reopened. Perfect day to splash in the creek a bit.

Good news: the Holmes Run Trail entrance from Columbia Pike is finally open again! Now, you can ride between Columbia Pike and Eisenhower Ave on a continuous trail. Also, the water in Holmes Run is still wet and cold 😎
Thanks for the heads up! That’s my favorite trail in the region.

ParticipantI mostly prefer road traffic to trail traffic – the $#@%# $%@# who ran a stop sign at Post Forest/Random Hills this morning and would have left-hooked me had I not been alert being a notable exception, of course.
The W&OD can just be downright annoying some mornings. (It’s strange how the evening commute is usually much better than the morning) I have the option to take the Cross-County instead and I like doing that at least a couple of mornings a week – the solitude is wonderful, and it makes the ride home on the WOD absolutely fly by.
All that said, the biggest annoyance is hopping in the car rather than on the bike!

ParticipantClosed in fall 2010, I think. “Safety reasons”
Pretty sure that there’s a plan in place to make the needed repairs, but it’s a funding issue or somesuch.

ParticipantMy morning commute was an afternoon commute. After having to drive to the office this morning, I got to stop at home and hop on the bike for a ride downtown to a conference. The 40 minutes in the saddle completely turned around what was a totally crappy morning.

ParticipantCompleted the GAP/C&O yesterday – done as a fundraiser for my company’s Educational Foundation. The money raised (don’t have the final #s yet, but it’s somewhere between 50 and 60k) will go back to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) scholarships and grants.
This was the second year of doing it. Mostly good (and remarkably cool!) weather, great company, and just a great ride. Already looking forward to 2015.
