ParticipantI bought a Bell Incredibell OMNI at Freshbikes that has a stretchy adjustable strap. It takes a bit of effort to stretch it on though, and might not be great if you needed real quick installations.

Participant[QUOTEWe can write out our own nametags though; don’t see why you feel the need to do that.
I just call them nametags as a ruse. They’re actually Valentine cards and expressions of respect.

ParticipantA call for help – Could someone please print out the “various” parts of the Leaderboard (indiv and team) and bring them to me tonight before we start? I have to run and just learned that RCannon won’t be there. I can access them by phone but would be so much easier to have paper.
Don’t need charts. Just text.
Thanks for any help offered!

ParticipantSo sorry Hans! We’ll really miss you, and you have done so much for #BAFS!
We’ll just have to arrange for another happy hour sometime that you can attend. I hope you feel better soon!

ParticipantIn view of the large number of people coming by bike – please be thoughtful about where you lock your bikes so that you don’t impede pedestrians or intrude on the enjoyment of outdoor diners.
There is a lot of bike parking throughout Shirlington Village (which is only two short blocks long). Many U racks are available near the bus/transit station and at the library at the end of the street. There are also several other U racks scattered around, in addition to lamposts you can lock up to by cable lock.
Thanks!

ParticipantBeer and appetizer specials start at 4 pm, I think. Also, Cap City has been very generous in letting us use their private room at no cost.
It would be fantastic to show your appreciation in tips and by ordering appetizers or meals. Several appetizers are half price during happy hour. And of course there are the beer specials!
See ya’ll soon!

ParticipantI rode the switchback detour last night and it’s so well marked that I think it’s impossible to get lost.
Just remember to NOT take the bike detour from the MVT at Crystal City. Take your usual MVT,FMR route. When you are blocked off at the end, the switchback going up is right on your right. Follow the signs, riding the sidewalk, until you cross Jefferson David Hwy. (signs still guiding you). You’ll ride the sidewalk, pass by the Porsche Dealership, and turn right on a ramp (again, signs right there) that takes you right back to the trail. It’s a very short detour. Total piece of cake. (Only a small caveat, when crossing Jeff Davis Hwy., make sure you watch for the curb cut on the opposite side. It’s not quite straight ahead of you.)

Does anyone else call/ring bell when going around a blind turn?.
I always ring the bell at blind turns and before entering narrow tunnels. It’s instinctive now.

ParticipantI haven’t tried Dasgeh’s route, but there’s one pretty long Pentagon tunnel with signs all overit saying that you have to walk your bike through, and there may be a lot of people there that time of evening on a weekday. Not sure if its the same tunnel.

ParticipantNot sure I understand your question, but I don’t especially like to take Eads going to Shirlington from DC. Going from Shirlington to DC, it’s fine. You make a left where you see a wide paved cul de sac area immediately adjacent to the FMR trail.
If it would help, I’d be more than happy to help guide a group from the switchback as the convoy is coming toward Shirlington, and/or, after the happy hour, to where the trail meets Eads for going back into the city. I’d just need to have an idea as to timing for the group coming to Cap City.
Arlingtonrider
ParticipantIf I was leading a convoy, I’d just take the usual trail route and walk or ride up the short switch back. It’s easy and doesn’t take you far out of your way. (See my Strava route from this morning.) I could even ride out to where the trail is blocked off and show you the way.

ParticipantI’m still working. Will try to be there if I can wake up in time.

ParticipantThanks Carol. I figured I’d edit it again shortly.
One more request for rsvps – if anyone else knows that they are coming and hasn’t let me know already, please let me know. Also, if anyone knows now that they won’t be able to make it and hasn’t let me know already, please do. Thanks!
(I know that there will be some last minute add ons and cancellations, but I’d like to get as close as I can w/r/t the BASF nametags.)Looking forward to seeing everyone!

ParticipantI try very hard to be nice to the tourists. They often don’t know better and I want cyclists to look good to them so they can go back to their hometowns and help the cyclists there.
I feel less charitable toward the locals who engage in unsafe passes or other bad behavior. And I really miss winter on the MVT.
