I haven’t tried Dasgeh’s route, but there’s one pretty long Pentagon tunnel with signs all overit saying that you have to walk your bike through, and there may be a lot of people there that time of evening on a weekday. Not sure if its the same tunnel.
And there are cops that might actually enforce that provision.
You can avoid the tunnel by taking Columbia Pike and Joyce between the South Parking lot and Army Navy Drive. Another alternative is taking Boundary Channel to Long Bridge Drive. Turn right to go under Route 1 on 12th Street and another right onto Army Navy Drive.

It’s the Army-Navy from Pentagon Row to FMR that I’ve never ridden and have always been curious about. It’s pretty flat and, as ShawnDread pointed out, shorter than any other route.
There is a short hill from Joyce Street and then a gradual downhill to the Glebe Road interchange. You may want to stay on Army Navy all the way to 26th. See the above post for a map.
PS: you mean Fern, not Hayes street.

If you show up and I’m there and I look what I’m doing, you don’t want to follow me. Any member of Team 2 might be facing a quick jaunt up 23rd Street.

Dismal just likes to hide his errors in a smokescreen of vindictiveness.

ParticipantDismal needs to click that button on Google maps that says “short URL”

ParticipantUnfortunately, I can’t generally get away from my desk until 6:00. Hopefully I’ll be able to slip out a bit early today, but in any event I’ll be well behind the caravan. See y’all there!

ParticipantSo the caravan of insanity is coming out to Merrifield to collect me right?

Umm… 4MR is closed.
It’s not closed, quite scaring people, there’s just a slight detour where you have to navigate some very twisty S curves or walk the bike up the stairs and then wait at a light.
I’m up for any route, we’ll have a large group, so it’ll be fun!

ParticipantI’ll be coming from upper NW, but can’t get out until 5 so will miss the caravan. I’ve gone up that way before, but always took 4MR from MVT or came down Commonwealth. So I’m just trying to figure out how much of 4MR is closed re the detour bit. I’ll just follow the signs I suppose. I know once I get down to Glebe how to switch over at a few points, it’s more just that stretch in Crystal City I’m not familiar with (Eads I think). But worst case, I’ll just make it up as I go since I know the general direction. Should get there by 6ish I hope. I’ll take Wisconsin/34th down so I can be slightly faster than my usual route.

So I really want to try this route (spoiler alert: through the Pentagon Parking lot, then along Army-Navy Drive to FMR). I’m getting to work late tomorrow (it’s a trend), so I’ll leave Capitol Hill at 5pm. I could be at the designated CaBi station (Jefferson Memorial) around 5:15pm (5:20pm?) if anyone wants to join me. I’ve never this route between the Pentagon tunnel and joining FMR, so it’ll be an adventure!
@Terpfan – you can always join up with the late groupApril 3, 2014 at 1:29 pm #997593Arlingtonrider
ParticipantI rode the switchback detour last night and it’s so well marked that I think it’s impossible to get lost.
Just remember to NOT take the bike detour from the MVT at Crystal City. Take your usual MVT,FMR route. When you are blocked off at the end, the switchback going up is right on your right. Follow the signs, riding the sidewalk, until you cross Jefferson David Hwy. (signs still guiding you). You’ll ride the sidewalk, pass by the Porsche Dealership, and turn right on a ramp (again, signs right there) that takes you right back to the trail. It’s a very short detour. Total piece of cake. (Only a small caveat, when crossing Jeff Davis Hwy., make sure you watch for the curb cut on the opposite side. It’s not quite straight ahead of you.)

ParticipantIf you want we can ride together. I’m coming from Buzzard point and I can meet you at the TJ Memorial CaBi station at 5:150-5:20. I ride this way everyday and have a good way to get to Eads.
