    3/02 – “Wonder Wander”
by Larry Kirkland (2010), Center Park at Potomac Yard, the centerpiece of the National Gateway development, Arlington VA
    Wonder Wander

Kirkland created two monumental granite monoliths each carved with a mysterious eye that looks up at the ever-changing sky. At times, the sculptures are covered by a veil of water, changing their appearance and adding a layer of movement to the work.

@kbikeva Thanks for the explanation of this cool piece of public art. El Paso seems to have quite a bit of interesting public art.

The Cloud by Donald Lipsky, 2016

Inspired by the Bhutanese architecture found on the University of Texas, El Paso, campus, artist Donald Lipsky designed a three sided cloud that arises from a sunken roundabout that also functions as a pedestrian underpass. Bhutan is known as “the kingdom in the clouds.”  The Cloud is constructed from thousands of hinged enameled stainless steel flaps that gently move in the breeze.  (I can testify to this, because when I was in the underpass, I could hear the flapping of the metal pieces as they were moved around by the wind.)

    3/3/24 – Wedding Cake House

Joan and I call this house the Wedding Cake House cuz each level higher is smaller than the one below it. It’s elusive, though, like most magical things – sometimes I find it and sometimes I don’t.

This house is in Lyon village (or maybe the next neighborhood west of it) on a side street just east of  Kirkwood. The address is 1835, and I woulda said Jackson or Johnson st, but Google maps doesn’t show it at either of those places so 🤷🏻 I was lucky to find it today 😃🎊
