3/1/24. With the limits on weight for military families during a move, I suspect this piece of sculpture gets handed off from family to family.

Mary Eliza Church Terrell was a well-known African American activist who championed racial equality and women’s suffrage in the late 19th and early 20thcentury. An Oberlin College graduate, Terrell was part of the rising black middle and upper class who used their position to fight racial discrimination.

The Cloud by Donald Lipsky, 2016

Inspired by the Bhutanese architecture found on the University of Texas, El Paso, campus, artist Donald Lipsky designed a three sided cloud that arises from a sunken roundabout that also functions as a pedestrian underpass. Bhutan is known as “the kingdom in the clouds.”  The Cloud is constructed from thousands of hinged enameled stainless steel flaps that gently move in the breeze.  (I can testify to this, because when I was in the underpass, I could hear the flapping of the metal pieces as they were moved around by the wind.)
