Found near the river in Old Town Alexandria. Didn’t see a plaque so don’t have any info on it. Kind of cool though.

Created by Christopher Janney and installed in 2004, commissioned by Prince Georges County Art in Public Places program. This is an interactive piece, where sounds and lights appear when the “hands” are touched.

Looks kinda like an anchor-ish thing, doesn’t it? One of the things I find most frustrating is trying to find out more about the public art I see. In Reston we are fortunate to have a lot of it, and most of it is signed with artist/material/etc info. We even have bike routes to see it the various pieces. (http://www.publicartreston). But when I look in other communities, I’m having a tough time finding some entity — gov’t or quasi gov’t or private — that even LISTS the pieces. I am going to try to use the photos from this game to devise some routes for the summer when we can hopefully ride as groups again. It would just be great to find art piece maps or lists or info. :-)

I thought I had posted this already…but I’m not seeing it. This is a mural in Leesburg, VA. Lots of fun detail!

For the daily Scavenger Hunt, I rode to George C. Yeonas Park, Home of the Vienna Little League, to see the statue of a small little league batter and pitcher. Alas, the bat (daily hunt item) was missing from his hands. There was a stick nearby. Isn’t a stick a “bat” in stick ball? I took the picture, then found a mural with two bats. See my post in the Daily Scavenger Hunt thread for a picture of the mural.

A great mural to find. It’s part of a series on the wall of a new development in Fairfax. There are no businesses in there yet, but it looks SO much better than it did before the development. The area is called Point 50.

Do we call it “Ameridog Gothic” or “American Dogthic”?

Darn it, I forgot the bike again. I’ll have to go back.

“Greeting from Del Ray.” Too bad there’s no bike in the mural!

In keeping with my theme of “bicycles depicted in public art,” see cross-posting here for the Mount Vernon Recreation Center mural, as well as a portion of The Mural at Greenhill Properties, below:

I say “a portion” because the whole mural is the length of a football field. Read more here. The street address is 611 S. Pickett Street in Alexandria, although the mural is actually on the north side of the building, on Edsall Road.

This was more bat-like in my memory. So I’m putting it here sideways. Martin Puryear’s Bearing Witness, located in the courtyard of the Ronald Reagan Building/International Trade Center.
