ParticipantThis is questionable taste public art, but it fit both categories today (scavenger hunt photo and public art).
I noticed this guy yesterday in Herndon and went back for the photo today. This is the house that puts out skeletons for almost every holiday and goes absolutely NUTS at Halloween. Come to think of it, this may be a repurposed pirate coat and beard from their Pirates of the Caribbean theme back in October!

Participant** Wrapping Up #PublicArtFinder **
Wow! You are all incredibly generous in sharing your local knowledge, and made some fabulous public art finds, many hiding in plain sight, and others hidden under bridges (and why someone would ride their bike in such places is a topic for another thread).
Originally my intent was to incentivize freezing saddlers to get out and ride, and keep their heads up to appreciate cool landmarks along the way. Never did I imagine that this pointless prize challenge would attract 50 participants and log 850+ rides on the leaderboard so far during #BAFS2021. I am humbled.
Looking at just the leaderboard alone (sans bonus point credits), consularrider and Serdar are less than a bike length apart from coming out on top with 36 hours to go before #BAFS2021 ends. However keep an eye on the target rich Reston dynamic duo of CathyM and Kbikeva who are in hot pursuit. So this competition is still very much in play. However, everyone is a winner as the point is to share our art finds in the wild, and motivate each other to ride when we otherwise would not, or as far, or in places new2us.
I will tally up the final results, add in the bonus points, and think about a suitable award(s), so look forward to another posting after the #BAFS2021 season closes. But in the interim, smile and enjoy the ride:-)

ParticipantIt’s called Nokomis and it’s located in Reston. I guess I could technically do a ride tomorrow to hit all the remaining pieces in Reston, starting and stopping my Strava 20 times, just so I can “win”. But I believe that the spirit of FS is to encourage riders to get out and ride daily, so I’m going to remain a daily rider and choose one more to post tomorrow. It’s been great fun, Boomer, and thank you for doing it!

ParticipantIn case you never want publicartfinder to end, check this out! https://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/event/art-in-bloom-hunt/
Also, Tracie Griffiths Tso, one of the artists, is an acquaintance of mine. Better yet, her husband is a bike commuter and advocate!

ParticipantMy last publicartfinder for this game, but certainly not my last for hunting down art in the wild!
I’ve seen this piece as I’ve ridden my last .25 mile each time I’m heading home, but it’s in a private yard and up a nicely maintained path, so I was a little leery about whether I should/could get close enough for a photo. Since today was the last opportunity to get a point for bravery, and because the woods are filling in with green so it will soon not be visible from the path, I went for it! I have no idea about the artist or name of the piece, just that it’s in Reston off the Turquoise Trail.

ParticipantAn MLK mural by Bus Boys and Poets on K St which I meant to pass by earlier for MLK day. It’s part of a series on hope and his words still ring true today: we must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.

ParticipantI was hoping I would get a chance to visit the inside courtyard of the Cool Disco Dan mural at the 14th St Graffiti Museum. Unfortunately never got around to it but did manage to capture part of the mural from a distance. Still cool from a distance!

ParticipantFor my last entry, I went to visit the I’m Speaking Mural at the Southwest waterfront in honor of International Women’s Day. It is a crochet composed of 150 people across the country each stitching a square!

ParticipantOn the back side of Ourisman Honda (note the car’s Honda badge on the grill) in Bethesda. The opposite side is on the Capital Crescent Trail. there should be a bike and a stroller in the mural.

I wondered how it was going to hold up to the elements, but after all that rain, it still looks great!

ParticipantFor my last entry, which I realize might be late, I took a picture of our typical meet up spot in Hyattsville, Maryland Meadworks.
It’s a great spot to hang out, too!

This really tall tree sculpture looks to be topped with a cormorant(?). It is in a very large yard, behind a very high fence, and (maybe) contains a sand volleyball court.

Can you give me a more precise location on this? I’m putting together a chainsaw art map and I’d like to add this one. – Thanks! – Catie
