Post your #PublicArtFinder pic here! But please do so responsibly by using the “small” option on your Tapatalk menu!!

Rules (which are more like general guidelines [emoji849]):

    1. Ride your bike a least a mile to any art form (loosely defined) that is freely accessible to the public

    2. Take a picture of said art with a bicycle somewhere in the frame, and upload to this thread, Strava and/or the FS Facebook page (but please include the link here so that it can be found).

    3. Hashtag your ride #publicartfinder (not CaSe SeNsItIvE) on Strava if you want to appear on the FS2021 PP leaderboard https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinder

    4. Public Art rides/pics must be posted within 72 hours, so as to allow all a fair chance to play, and avoid sandbagging at the end of FS2020 to game the PP competition.

Entries will be judged by some faceless cabal on totally subjective criteria that may include use of creative objects (like a bike), composition, light, artistic flair, witty captions, great stories, # of quality submissions, and/or # likes, kudos or dislikes. Extra points if you disclose the exact location of the art form so that others may enjoy it.

Now go find your Public Art form!

Lovely art ride with SophieCW, Lefty Laura, Consularrider and Serdar today. This fountain isn’t on the list of items to see, but it’s right next to one that is. I don’t list it because I’m sad and embarrassed that Reston doesn’t take better care of it. It’s non-functioning and on a plaza next to what used to be the International Center (now Virginia Spine Institute). The plaza is named for Dag Hammerskjold, a great humanitarian.

Angel wings at the Embassy Row Hotel in Dupont Circle. This is part of the global angel wings project which was started on 2012 to remind humanity that we are angels on this Earth. And bikes too! I think this was the first one in the area and have seen some other ones popping up since then including one on 14th St at Patty Boom Boom and another in Leesburg at the Delirium Cafe.

I would love to, Kelley. How about meeting at the Metro Plaza next weekend?

Entering the North Shore Drive Underpass is like exploring a secret civilization that artist Gonzalo Fonseca filled with both familiar and mysterious forms to spur the imagination.

The Inflatable Mushroom art installation in Crystal City near Long Bridge Park. If you want to see it, go quickly, because I believe it is only staying until March 13.

Fidelity of Form by Dennis Heimbach, 12023 Town Square St, Reston, VA
In Fidelity of Form, Dennis Heimbach implies movement with elongated, curving stainless steel shapes that seem to dance in the breeze. Spring is a great time to explore harnessing the wind.

Iris, by Daniel Goldstein, is a soaring combination of curving forms that suggest the flower of the title through simplified, abstract shapes.

This is the fountain in front of the Shirlington Public Library. It was done by Martha Jackson-Jarvis. The water is shut off for the winter, but it’s still cool!
