ParticipantThanks for extending the “wrap” hunt time frame. They’re hard to come by out west of Arl/Alex. But today I was successful to snag the two in City of Fairfax. The green one is called “Rocks” and has iconic places in Fairfax on it. The other is called “Spirits Rising” and is more ethereal. There are more photos on my Strava.

Will you add a pic of the #publicartfinder piece for those of us who lack the ability to envisage it from your description alone?

While I can’t win my own pointless prize, I thought that I’d share a piece that did not feature during my recent TyCo #publicartfinder tour, the 911 Memorial at the Velo Park office building on Jones Branch Drive.
I couldn’t find much info online about the memorial, nor the artist, but it seems to incorporate debris from the Pentagon, World Trade Center and rocks from the crash site in Shanksville PA. There are two benches where one can sit and reflect upon the piece.

Boomer, if you can’t win your own pointless prize, let me try winning it.

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY
Found while on a #photoscavengerhunt for a “beetle” in Tyson’s Corner. First one to find it and geolocate it gets an extra +3 points!!
And this one for an extra +5 points
Hint: neither of these is visible from street view
Happy #publicartfinder hunting!

https://www.strava.com/activities/4827308902Entry is granted to the parking garage via the 4th level flyover bridge — one of my claimed TYCO aerial wormholes — and you can exit (but not enter) the doors to the right of the gated entrance at the ground floor where you took your picture!

https://www.strava.com/activities/4827308902You seem to be well on your way already to winning it, my fellow #publicartfinder … but beware of the competition from the target-rich environment of Reston VA and Washington DC!

ParticipantKelley W and I, unbeknownst to each other’s plans for the day, headed to Fairfax City to capture 2 electric box wraps.
This one is Spirit Rising by Rosemary Gallick

The second one is called Rocks by Nicholas Cornell. If you look closely, all of the landmarks, critters, and symbols are painted on rocks.

ParticipantIn honor of purple rain, the purple mural on the wall of Bohemian Caverns on 11th and U St. I don’t usually bike down 11th St so happened to catch this striking mural of various jazz greats. Titled the Resurrection by Udofia, not sure if it’s because of the other mural that used to be there or Bohemian Caverns had fallen into hard times. Here’s hoping they come back!

ParticipantMural at Mellow Mushroom in Herndon. Although it had today’s requisite purple for the scavenger hunt, it’s on the side of a pizza place, not a house.

ParticipantYes, I’m still looking at yard art. But I have to admit, after I really started looking, it was amazing what some people have in their front yards. This photo is of a stained glass insert in a porch rail on a house in the 300 block of S. Barton Street in Arlington. I thought it was very lovely.
