At the midpoint of the BAFS2021 season, we have 49 participants to date. Holy PublicArtFinder Palooza!

consularrider is on top of the leaderboard (though has a few questionable submissions of buildings that allegedly have art inside of them still under review by the faceless cabal), with Cathym and Serdar tied for 2nd place, and Kelley W holding on to 3rd place by a thread as Laura R [emoji210] Karen h David jiang are in hot pursuit. But the dark horse may yet be Catedrew on her trike and yard art exploits!

I will update the leaderboard standings based upon extra points awarded to date, and post that on a spreadsheet to this thread. In the interim, Ride on and find public art!

P.S. disregard my standing, as I am not eligible to compete in my own sponsored pointless prize;-)

You’ll be glad to know that on Friday I went through all my Strava hashtags to make sure I had only hashtags from ones that met your criteria (i.e., bike in photo!). With my +3 for philosophical musings, I’ll be at 35. But it’s just a game and a reason to get outside and bike, so I’m happy either way. Thanks Boomer for offering this challenge. It’s very motivating and uplifting. The best part is seeing all these other places where there is great art to pursue for enjoyment. My favorites are the ones where people are very specific about location. You may think “everyone” knows where something is in your neighborhood, but trust me, that’s not the case for people who don’t ride there often!

I’ve ridden through this new development a number of times and thought it was very nicely curated but hadn’t seen any public art. Today I was across Centreville Rd from it at Arrowbrook Park and casually looked toward it. BOOM – saw the mural for the first time! So I mentally rerouted the end of my ride to capture it on digital for you all!

The Shop Small mural in DC on the side of Mercedes Bien vintage clothing store in Adams Morgan. There used to be another mural here on the wall that said “if you lived here you would be home… But you would not be able to vote” that was graffitied over. Interestingly American Express commissioned Udofia to paint this replacement for Small Business Sat.

Resilience, a new mural at Union Market to uplift the community. They apparently have a website for people to share stories. The colors are definitely uplifting!

I went on a tour once and was told that a couple of them are completely gone without a trace. But most of them are still intact. I don’t recall which ones.

At Howard University in front of Blackburn Center

A Bridge Across and Beyond by Richard Hunt is unveiled on April 27, 1979.

bronze abstract sculpture which sits, surrounded by fountains, within a large reflecting pool. The sculpture consists of two massive pyramid-like structures that bend towards each other, symbolizing both Africa and the descendants of Africans in America; the “bridge” is formed by abstract African symbols reaching across from each pyramid to the other.

I love this mural and was thinking what a nice looking bike you have…and then realized it’s a Surly. Of course it looks nice! Mine’s a Straggler. Similar bone structure. :-)

I guess his name is Mr. Mellow Mushroom Man. I never looked at him up close before today. He’s actually quite interesting! He stands in Herndon on Elden Street.

My gearhead nephew could probably tell me what every one of those gears and cogs and other things are for. I recognize the bike chains … ha ha

Well, Serdar made quick work of that! 2X points for those 2 quick finds = 4 points!

But I will leave the switch boxes in play for others too seek out and earn 2X points through the weekend. And to make it non-geographical, claim any switch box art in any jurisdiction to claim this week’s bonus points!
