ParticipantI originally thought that this was a temporary, seasonal art display, but given that we are well into February, I think it might be a permanent installation!

Here is part of the sidewalk markers about “women whose vision and actions built this community” in Falls Church, VA.
This section is on S. Maple Ave in front of Borek-G Turkish Mom’s Cooking.
I rode over those sidewalks just yesterday, but did not stop to read what they said!:-0. Way to keep your eyes [emoji102] open!!

Participant#PublicArtFinder – Jacques Schnier was an engineer who started to study art and architecture, then became a sculptor. He died 2 years after this sculpture was created. Couldn’t find any information about this unnamed piece, located on the southwest corner of 355/Rockville Pike and West Gude Drive in Rockville.

Pallet Art seems to have become poplar in Suburban NOVA during the pandemic. I found this particular display somewhere in North Springfield VA.Sent from Boomer_Cycles via my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantMore yard art in Arlington, VA. This one is a sculpture in the backyard of 2730 N. Pershing Drive, but one can get a really good view of it from Edgewood Street.

ParticipantElizabeth Taylor mural at Dacha beer garden at 7th and Q St. She was apparently a big supporter of the Whitman-Walker Health Center around the corner which provides treatment to those affected by HIV and this mural is a tribute to her.

Bikedavid – thanks for posting this. I lived here as a teenager at the time and I remember her support being somewhat controversial because politicians were still unsure how to handle the AIDS epidemic. She was married to Senator Warner. Because of her film connections was highly aware of how devastating the disease was, particularly in the creative communities. Her being a politician’s wife, and famous as she was, and outspoken about this helped turn the discussion towards helping rather than judging. It was a glimmer of her as well — she wasn’t just about the facade of Hollywood. I had forgotten all about her support for W-W. I really appreciate this look back!

Thank you for the insight. I didn’t realize she was married to Senator Warner. So interesting to hear how she utilized her connections to change the discussion!

ParticipantToday’s art – a stained glass piece in the front yard of 3210 4th St. North, in Arlington, VA. I passed this house numerous times and saw the empty metal frame in the front yard, and then last week, boom! There was stained glass art hanging from it!

Oui, that’s a new one on me! Where exactly in Tysons is it located? I’d like to add it to my TyCo #PublicArtFinder route, FYI.
Ride on, and find public art!

Your volume of #publicartfinds is impressive! You must live/ride in a target [emoji457] rich environment. Have you considered hosting a #publicartfinder ride in your hood?
Ride on (but not in) people’s yard Art!Sent from Boomer_Cycles via my iPhone using Tapatalk
