The Trader Joe on Wisconsin near the Naval Observatory has a mural in the style of their flyers. Hard to miss that big wheel bike when you are going south!
There’s a fun wormhole with offroad elements over there too! I can’t claim it, but I’ll describe it for someone local who can snag it.
I’ve usually just used it to head west from the Dupont/Kalorama area to Glover Park. Head west uphill on Whitehaven St NW (by the Italian Embassy), and please don’t steal my KOM. Hop onto the trail at the top, bear right and go towards the Naval Observatory, the hug the fence there. I suggest not loitering in the vicinity. Head downhill, watch out for some roots, and then you’ll pop out behind the TJ’s. Climb up to Wisconsin Ave and you’re all set!
(apologies Boomer for the threadjacking)

ParticipantI had a goal in mind for my public art contribution today. Rode up and snagged it, but as I continued my ride and saw how bad the W&OD still was, I turned off and went a different direction. Serendipity being what it is, I discovered this brand new bus shelter that is actually pretty! Now if they just put a bench in there …

This is Viewer for the Age of Reason by Greg Shelnutt. It’s steel and in pretty bad shape so I don’t expect it will be around much longer.

ParticipantBoomer will probably say I’m pushing the definition again, but for my “public art” I present for your consideration: The Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Ave, Manhattan.

ParticipantIn front of the Smithsonian Museum of American History there is this sculpture called Infinity by Jose de Rivera.
It used to rotate slowly, which was very cool, but has been stationary for a long, long time. I don’t know when it stopped.

ParticipantCrammed in a couple hours before winter turns snowy and icy here in Belgium. Spun it out to Leuven (a very interesting city with a cool history, now home to ABInBev). Grabbed a couple of shots of some cool art, a wall painting and a sculpture.
Not quite the girl with a pearl earring, but definitely in the style of a Dutch Master. Note the background, this was commissioned by the largest brewer in the world.
And then a sculpture I’ve ridden by a bunch of times on the Leuven “fietsring.” I find it very cool, the details really drive home the name, “De ontvoering van Europa.”

ParticipantSpotted more “love in six lines” in the wild! The same artist currently has some on the scaffolding at the Dupont Circle metro station north entrance including this one of a couple on a tandem.

Time for #publicartfinder to switch sides of the River!
Go find something done by the Port Towns Youth Mural (youth-led) program along the upper reaches of the ART (Anacostia River Trail) and score yourself +5 points during the first week of February!!!
https://www.ethm.org/ethm-program-areas/#Publicartfinder works by other artists in and around Port Towns MD (formerly known as Bladensburg;-) worth +3 points.

OK, Boomer. I took the bait and found this mural (actually was taken to this mural) on my ride today with a friend.
