ParticipantThis lovely rooster has been hiding from me in plain sight. Maybe it the way his colors jump out at you with the snowy backdrop. He can be found near the entrance to The Gardens Assisted Living community on Forest Hill Drive in Fairfax.

The Gagged Washington mural. I did not realize but it is also by Udofia the artist who painted the one on the wall of Ben’s Chili Bowl. It’s a collaboration with another artist about Washingtonians fighting to have their voices heard. I think it’s kinda neat that it is also next to the RBG mural.
Ha ha – at first I thought it was a comment on how people are ‘sorta’ wearing a mask.

ParticipantThe Joan of Arc statue in Meridian Hill Park. It is a replica of the one in France. It is the only equestrian statue of a woman in DC. Also pretty cool is that the statue was given to woman in the US from the women in France.

The skylighting with the branches to the left almost look like another mural, a backdrop of sorts. Very nicely framed!

Participant#PublicArtFinder – 3105 2nd Street South. This house has quite a few cool metal sculptures, including a HUGE colorful metal rooster in the side yard. You may see more of their art in later posts…

ParticipantThere are some perennial installations on Connecticut Ave. One of them is Monument, overlooking the Connecticut Ave underpass in Dupont Circle. It is formed from sticks and branches locally sourced and is supposed to represent the achievements of a community working together.

ParticipantThis high school in Sterling, VA has a very high percentage of students qualifying for free lunch (highest in Loudoun County) and a huge number of recent immigrant families (within the last 10 years so many of these students did not start their education in the US). And this virtual learning environment doesn’t encourage them to stay focused on success. Under these circumstances, I figure if the seniors are motivated enough to come to the school to paint this, we should honor it by calling it public art!
Park View HS, Sterling.
