ParticipantFS newbie here. I’ve used my commute as guaranteed winter base miles. This year, amidst the COVID pando, I need extra motivation for weekday rides in the dark and cold. I know a few people who have done FS in the past, and it seems like a lot of fun.
I’ve been riding bikes since I was 5 years old. As a kid, I delivered an afternoon newspaper every day for 10 years on mountain bikes, and tooled around Illinois cornfield roads on a Schwinn road bike. Now I do a mix of everything from pavement to trails to cyclocross. Looking forward to meeting folks and friendly competition.

Hey everyone! I did BAFS for the first time two years ago in 2018 and it was awesome. I ride my bike(s) a lot more now, and I’ve met a bunch of people.
If you’re new to the forums, you can get your required first post here, so you don’t need to open up a new thread. If you’re not new, still feel free to let people know a bit about you (if you’d like).
Looking forward to participating for first time in 2021!

ParticipantGood Morning!
Here I am making my first post so I can sign up for Freezing Saddles. Brian Miller is forcing me to do this!
I’m ~50, newly returned to cycling, from Aspen Hill, MD and born and raised in Boston. My goal is to notch about 50 miles per week in this contest. I look forward to joining all of you!

ParticipantHi I´m Shayna and this will be my first FS – last winter I bike commuted to work and am hoping this will give me extra motivation to get out on my bike this winter since I no longer have my commute!

ParticipantI’ve just joined so that I can participate in Freezing Saddles this year. Looking for something to nudge me out there on my bike during the winter.
I was a pre-pandemic recreational biker, having acquired my hybrid in Sept 2019 with a goal of using it for fitness and ultimately for once or twice weekly commutes to the office. I rode weekends through November in 2019 and then hibernated for the winter was just getting started again when the pandemic sent us into lockdown and my bike became the thing that kept me sane during after long work from home days.
Now that the days are shorter and temps colder I’m struggling with getting out there. As a native Floridian winter is not my favorite season. Hoping the pressure of contributing to my team for freezing saddles will help motivate me.

ParticipantHi, I’m Tim, one of the people I ride in a small group with was previously part of FS. I looked it up and it look like a lot of fun. I used to ride a long time ago. For the last year and a half I’ve been on a weight loss journey that brought me back to riding. I try to ride whenever I have the opportunity and look forward to being part of something that I haven’t done before.

ParticipantHello, I’m new to the bike forum group. I started riding my Trek MTB bike at the start of the pandemic, which had sat and collected dust for quite a few years since I’ve had kids. Now I’m hooked on riding whenever I can. Most recently, I’ve bought a used Trek road bike so that I can go faster and farther. This is my first post in this forum so that I can register for the Freezing Saddles 2021. This will be my first time riding during the cold winter. Hopefully, I will survive it. Now I need to invest in bike cold weather gear so that I don’t freeze my butt off. I’m not sure how this competition will go but I guess I’ll try it so that I can meet more bicyclists in the area and it sounds like it will be fun.
