ParticipantThere’s a guy who parks his ELF at Judiciary Square many mornings. It’s covered with weird political rants of unclear meaning. Hmmm.

“In 2009, Dorel Industries said that it was moving all of Cannondale’s bicycle manufacturing to a new plant in Taichung, Taiwan by the end of 2010. Some non-bicycle manufacturing jobs will remain in Bedford, including final assembly and testing. A new customer service call center is planned in Bedford, as well.”
“On 1/23/2014 Dorel Industries announced that it’s restructuring operations at its recreational/leisure segment. Dorel will close its assembly and testing facility in Bedford, Penn. The Bedford plant, which at one point produced Cannondale’s midrange to high-end aluminum and aluminum-carbon fiber bikes until manufacturing moved to Asia in 2010, still handled some assembly, testing, quality control and customer and technical services. Around 100 people will be laid off.”
-WikipediaCannondale is done as an American company, they’ll eventually have PRC ownership, as Dorel is just a shell filled with cubicles. HP, IBM, A123, Chesapeake Energy, Teledyne, GM Global Steering, Westinghouse Turbine, Smithfield Foods, Farmland Foods, AMC Theaters, Forbes, etc, etc, all sold to The PRC. Very rarely, our treasonous corporate media is forced to divulge one of these tragic hand overs of democratically funded technology and wealth creation to The People’s Republic of China, as was the case with Micron, The New York Times and Chevron, but that is rare. How can we compete with a country where the oil, steel, coal, telecommunications, mining, electricity, banking, ships and shipping, railways and locomotives, all the most critical inputs of manufacturing, are handed over to manufacturers at cost? Thirty years straight, and counting, of trade deficits, ever increasing debt, and third world status is the inevitable result.
We float our little toy boats over and wag our very expensive sword, but the whole world sees our pants are around our ankles. The sabre rattling is mainly for the home audience paying for this pointless waste of money and lives. The real war is being fought on Walmart’s shelves, and the winner has been declared. It’s not our democracy.

ParticipantWell, this has been entertaining. I am glad that SolarBikeCar is not alone. And hopefully he is equipped to deal with his supporters.
I picture some sort of Mad Maxx apocalypse of modified ELF cars on MUP trails and these crazies spewing 1984-style propaganda.
Before all this I really did think the ELF was a great idea. Now I am increasingly worried I would be mistaken for one of these other ELF drivers. Apparently the world needs more ELFs (driven responsibly … on roads) to make these weirdos the exceptions.

ParticipantThis thread took a hard right turn to crazy town. I try and make a point not to pig wrestle so it is the sidelines and popcorn for me.

Whoa whoa whoa, we have learned so much!
- He believes very strongly in the One Country, Two system policy
- This helps in ignoring Taiwan as a democracy
- 25% is the ideal percentage of GDP for manufacturing, without this, 3rd world status for sure

I would ignore me if I were on the opposite side of common sense, too, but my guess is you’d rather condemn pedal travel to the effete, recreational, overpriced-brand-name-Chinese bike, stretch pants crowd, than have it actually displace ICE travel. Maybe there are many in that area of the country who are deathly afraid that a year round, all weather, fun, healthy alternative to the automobile could seriously cramp the styles of some pretty powerful forces in this country. I have had no negative reaction to my ELF in Minnesota, only smiles, waves, curiosity, and people wanting to ride it.
(Yes, I take it on bike paths all the time)
Nice how you think you’re on some side of “common sense” when you are trying to turn this into a racial issue, bashing everyone over the head with the Thread of the Yellow Horde and Those Evil Yellow People over and over again. Nope. Not trolling or offensive or insane at all.
FYI: Some of us do a lot of riding on bikeshare. Those are/were made in Canada. While not quite the U.S., it’s not produced by those scary yellow people. But maybe the Canadians don’t fit into your acceptable political spectrum. Too Commie-like for you, maybe, eh? If it’s not Ted Nugent-made, it’s Communist and a threat to your very freedom?

A bunch of imbeciles ran straight toward machine gun and cannon fire in the Atlantic coastline North of France under that motto. What a bunch of suckers, huh?

ParticipantWelcome back OneLessCar. What happened? Did your mom wake you up for dinner?
Oh right, I forgot. Your just back from work, and ready to dedicate another all-nighter defending capitalism, America, and ELF against the evil empire of Cannondale.

I used to laugh at those who called China “Communist”, too. Really, I drink fluoridated water, and everything. But, what would you call a country where the banking, oil, coal, gas, solar panel manufacturing, mining, telecommunications, media, vehicle manufacturing, locomotive manufacturing, etc, etc, “the means of production”, are owned by the government”? Who is bringing “race” in to this? This is economics. The PRC’s protectionism to maintain a current account surplus isn’t racist. Nor is South Korea’s, or Japan’s, or Germany’s. Lincoln’s protectionism wasn’t racist, nor was Alexander Hamilton’s, or FDR’s “Buy American Act”. Every smart, responsible, democratic socialist country maintains a current account surplus.
Can you give me an example of even “dog whistle” racism in my comments?
Thank you.

See title.
Just finished making Bierocks with my Vietnamese, Chinese, Nowegian, Scottish, Irish, French, Canadian, Austrian, AMERICAN kids. Not too bad. Forgot to drain the meat, but they probably taste less dry that way. The fennel helps. Go to AllRecipe.com

That’s what they said about Ted Kazcinsky. Yeah, he was weird, and dangerous. He blamed technology for job loss, just like the free traitor neoliberals do. Can anyone imagine what a living hell this planet would be with 7 billion people and bronze age technology? Sure, it’s no picnic for most people, but the piles of feces would be even higher.
Anyway, “perimeter monkey” would be a more apt word. One who doesn’t quite fit in, but sees impending danger first, and tries to warn everyone.

There’s absolutely NO reason motherboards can’t be made in The United States. The control board, the throttle, and the wiring on The ELF are made in the U.S.
We have no business defending Taiwan. They seem completely content to collaborate with The PRC government.

ParticipantSo if people independently complain about feeling endangered by an ELF rider on a bike trail (where authorities have asked him not to ride), then he brings in the race-baiting cavalry to go on the all-out attack. OK. Good way to convince your Cause is right. Engage in scorched earth Internet tactics. Sounds smart to me…

I prefer “perimeter monkey”. One who doesn’t quite fit in, but sees impending danger first, and tries to warn everyone.
This is exactly what people have been doing on this thread regarding the use of the ELF on the bike trail. I’m not necessarily saying they are correct since I have not encountered the vehicle myself. But what you are shouting about, your noble protection of society, is EXACTLY what people have been doing on this thread. And I’d say you aren’t exactly so noble, considering your personal insults and racial innuendo. C’mon, nonstop use of “Commie” this and “Commie” that, “Chinese-made Cannondales,” and other nonsense. Please.
I don’t have a vested interest in this thread either way, but I can recognize how over-the-top, personally aggressive, personally offensive and race-baiting you are. Your friend calls you in and this is your response? You’ve definitely turned off far more people off the ELF vehicle, just because of your personality. Anyone on the fence about it would certainly be against it now. Not because they “love Commies” or “love oil companies” or “love their Chinese-made Cannondales” so much or because of whatever. No, just because of YOU. You have definitely generated far more ill will toward your friend and the ELF community in general, considering how you choose to frame it in terms of race, us vs. them, and war-like, civilization-defining terms. Frankly, the oil companies, the car companies, the Chinese Communist party, and overseas manufacturers of any product have a secret friend in you.
