ParticipantNice but the cabling is done horrendously. 😮
Looks like something I would plan and execute… and that is not a compliment. 😮

ParticipantEngineering notes from the designer/builder: “Headset does operate, and is cartridge bearing. However, there isn’t quite enough clearance to the wall to allow it to do quite 360 degrees. Hub is an old steel caged bearing that Anthony found would sort of fit a roll of T.P. I actually swapped the axle for a longer one (can’t remember if the original was 3/8″ or 9mm, but it was too short and non-q/r. I think the replacement is 10mm, and i found some cones that would sorta work with the original bearings. To get the resistance reasonable (so one wouldn’t accidentally pull lots of sheets) without making it grindy, i wrapped PTFE tape around the center portion off the axle to make a low-friction interference fit between the axle and the barrel of the hub. John Huntzinger reports after initial testing that the resistance might be a little too high, causing sheets to tear off rather than turn the roll. Time will tell if it will break in.”

ParticipantPFTE tape? Wrong parts bin! Clamp a couple fender stays on the brake mount so they press against the roll.

If only I had storage space for a cargo bike. That Edgerunner looks awesome!

For $4500-$5600 I want something more car-like, like a bakfiets that is more practical in bad weather. The older “wheel motor” longtails were available for around $3000. Why are these new models so much pricier?
Plus I don’t like the wheel sizes. The small rear means it’s less able to carry both kids and gear/groceries (less space for bags below their legs). The big front wheel means the front basket/platform can’t carry much. I know the Yuba folks dislike “cycletruck” designs, but I think an electrified Cycle Trucks Beavertail would be much better:

As my kids age I really appreciate being able to just strap their bike on when their legs get tired. The Mundo lets us pick longer routes without fear of kids’ bonking.

The 20″ front would improve standover height and reduce length to WMATA guidelines, which would really increase our car-free range!

ParticipantThe bike Friday hauladay sounds like almost exactly what you want. Both wheels are 20″. I think the smaller rear wheel is for stability I know (and Chris s could attest) that the larger wheel on the Boda makes it really wobbly to carry people, especially big people, on the back.
And I think those crank drive motors are just more expensive. But from reviews they seem awesome. And I agree – my ultimate would be a mid drive box bike for every day kid/stuff hauling. But for a hybrid – like my bike which mostly takes just me to work but sometimes takes kids around – I really like midtails that are mostly like normal bikes. I wonder what a midtail with a 20″ rear wheel would be like…
