That’s awesome. I hope that guy gets his bike shop someday.

I don’t know if it’s a covet really, but I’d rejoice on the day when all water bottles had a standard cap size and thread.

I live a sad, sad life, because I really really want this…

Thankfully, my commuter dreams are fulfilled, but the little roadie in me really wants this…thankfully, my covetousness is relatively modest.

I still kick myself for being a starving artist when I could have had one of these for $600 – back in the late 80’s or early 90’s:

Around Chicago in those days there were TWO shops that had ’em on the floor and ready to roll out the door. One’s still around but they don’t do anything like that anymore (Lickton’s), and I wish I knew what happened to the other. They even had a custom ironwork gate on the front door in the shape of a Pedersen.

Reminds me a bit of the Strida folding bikes (but probably a lot more rideable).

Another of my potential covets (love the colour as well as most of the build):

Oh Oh! So do I! Any raging opinions on the street????? I am looking at the Hound About Trailer.

One problem I am having is how to attach it / hitch it to my bike. With a pannier rack on my urban bike, there is not much room for a hitch. Thus I am thinking of buying a simple road bike so that I can go on rides with my dog. A regular in the forum promises me I wont blow out my knees.

I haven’t done much research, since I’m not in the market yet, but I think what I want is a custom steel frame. This bike from Bishop Bikes in Baltimore is a nice example.`

I highly recommend the book It’s All About the Bike by Robert Penn to anyone thinking of pursuing a custom made bike. A surprisingly entertaining and informative account of a guy travelling around the world putting together his dream bike.

That sounds like an awful book. It’s going to make me want to build the perfect bike even more than I do now. At the moment my willpower is strong enough to resist . . .

I just came across Bishop’s work the other day. This CX bike he made is stunning:

For more custom work, see Horse Cycles, up in Brooklyn. Some good looking builds there too. And kind of cool to say that you rode a Horse along the 15th st cycletrack. Or, better yet, rode to #fridaycoffeeclub on a Horse.

    Definitely a sexy bike.

My only worry with a really nice custom frame is that I’d be afraid to ride it outside. It would look great hanging on my wall, but if I took it outside, it might get dirt on it or something.

Wow. The details on that thing are amazing- super pretty, super classic… it’ll look even better with a patina from some use.

(and I want to know where I can get a kickstand that looks like a stick… oh wait… that IS a stick!)
