ParticipantI have suddenly decided that Vienna, VA needs a cargo bike rolling around and why shouldn’t it be me to pilot it?
If any of our Craigslist stalkers see one of these for cheap, NOT attached to a Huffy, let me know!
Liz
P.S. Also going to need some sort of cheap but extra long storage bin. This monster is not going to live in the house.

There is a Trek Transport for sale on craigslist. Momentum reviewed the e-assist version.

I like how the ad calls it a great commuter–it’s the Ford Excursion of bike commuting.

Why not build your own? My brother in law just did and in the process persuaded Bikenetic to become an official xtracycle dealer!

That seems like a pretty fair deal for a complete longtail bike if it fits. Plus it already includes fenders and the cargo bag.

This is what I had planned to do — already have a Trek mountain bike in the fleet that doesn’t have a lot to do. According to the Xtracycle website, it fits all the required specs. I had no idea Bikenetic is a dealer — will stop by there on my way home — thanks!

Well, part of my thinking is that my kid has music rehearsals three times a week and I want to get out of the business of dragging him there and back in the minivan. With this, he can get himself and his instrument there on his own. So in a sense, it would be a commuter for him. Would that alone justify the trouble and expense? No — but there is also grocery hauling, the occasional weird thing I have to transport to the office, etc. Plus the coolness factor.

Ha, nice! I’ve had a recent Covet for cargo bikes too, I blame the latest issue of Bicycle Times. I’ve visited the xtracycle website a few times in the last few days.
I’m thinking I will just assuage the craving with a nice front rack on my MTB. The stock cheap SunTour fork is nearing its end of days and a steel rigid fork with mounts for a front rack would give the bike an extra lease of life.
Other ongoing Covets:
a light SSCX
dedicated SS/FG (not a converted hybrid that doesn’t fit right)

ParticipantAnybody interested in a 3.5 pound carbon fat bike frame? Isn’t that less than the weight of one wheel with tire?

Someone obviously needs to make carbon fatbike rims.

I know this is the absolute worst reason to want a bike, but those Van Dessels just look so freaking COOL. That’s definitely going to be my next ride.
What are you waiting for? Pull the trigger. You deserve it.

ParticipantI can’t decide whether I covet this. I mean, it’s no Shinola, after all.
I’ll be in the Detroit area in early September. Maybe I’ll try to check one out.
