ParticipantLast night we built another bicycle-friendly gingerbread village. Warm wishes to all our two-wheeled friends. w&w and girls

ParticipantIck. Any specific suggestions on how to maneuver around the glass…for those of us riding on the Crescent tonight? Is one side of the trail better? It may be hard to see the shards in the dark. Thanks for your efforts to clean it up!

ParticipantHere is what I bought, per Dismal’s recommendation. It’s a good bike, and the price is right.

ParticipantI made a follow-up call to Marcia at the church, and I sent her an email per her request. She will circulate it among the church staff. She says the basement is being used for dance classes, but maybe there is some other space. She is also checking to see if we could use the staff parking lot. She says that Hotel Palomar uses the church parking lot at night. After we hear back from Marcia we can touch base with the hotel.

ParticipantThanks for making the call, dkel. Did they tell you which hotel?

*Having 200 people show up on your doorstep at the end of the business day, and ask if they can have a wedding in your church right now because their outdoor ceremony down the street just got rained out—that’s “a big ask.” True story, too.
Yow! What did you say to these 200? “Welcome inside” or “OK if you pay double” or “a lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part” ??
Thanks for making the call.

ParticipantGood to know. Sounds like you’d be the perfect person to make the call.

Seems like a simple phone call would do the trick.
Yes and no. Cold-calling with such a big “ask” does not always work. But sure, that’s always a fall-back – option C.

ParticipantMy Swedish brother just heard back from the company about the moose-crossing reflector. Yes — it’s available, and yes, it’s the same price.

ParticipantMy brother in Sweden heard back from the Swedish company. I’d asked him the hypothetical, how much would it cost to buy 200 of the green frog? (Some on the Forum had expressed interest in the color green.) The company said the green frogs (or similar model) would cost $2.74 each if we bought 200. There’s also a green lizard. Personally I like the “Barbaskön svart” … And the the moose-crossing one is lovely, but I’d need to check if they still make it since I don’t see it in the catalog. http://www.popomax.com/images/upload…talog-2015.pdf
I just made up the 200 number… I’ve no idea how many people would be interested…. or if folks would prefer the other options on this thread.
My brother could pick up the order in Sweden and bring them to my door, so no shipping fees. But obviously the others on this thread are still cheaper, if that’s a consideration. w&wwheelswings
ParticipantHere’s the catalog for the biggest producer of safety reflectors in Sweden. There are some interesting options, though they cost more than the twenty-cent ones from China.

My brother’s written to the company asking about bulk pricing. He could bring them in his suitcase at Christmas so we wouldn’t pay for shipping from Sweden.
Alternatively I’d be happy to go with any of the above suggestions, especially the ones from Komorebi’s catalog.December 6, 2016 at 8:45 pm in reply to: ISO route advice — near Seminary Rd and 395 in Alexandria #1061353wheelswings
ParticipantThanks, Bobco et al., for spoon-feeding me such a clear and comfortable route to my dental appointment on Kenmore Ave in Alexandria. The Van Dorn St. lane was smooth and well-manicured. The hardest part was actually the fact that you made it so EASY (despite the downpour!)… I kept waiting for ”the hard part” and all of a sudden I looked up and there was my destination! Thank you for making my world bigger.
As some of you know, for my first few years of bicycle commuting I pulled my girls in the double Burley and we never ventured beyond the Arlington borders, as that is where the routes ended on my paper-map. We’d lock up the bike/trailer and take the bus. But thanks to the wealth of expertise in this two-wheeled community, I’ve become a regular in DC, Fairfax, Falls Church, even faraway Maryland (admittedly that last one is still a bit intimidating
). Thanks for sharing… I am really grateful. w&w

ParticipantAnother option are small safety reflectors, either the clip-on type or the ones that dangle from little chains. They come in fun shapes and colors, and can be attached to zippers or knapsacks or other gear. But I’m not sure where to buy them in bulk. My brother in Sweden gets these for us all the time, so maybe he knows a good source.

ParticipantThanks for organizing the fun rides! I’m rearranging next Sunday’s schedule so I can join you @ Zoo Lights. Can’t wait! Life is extra-chaotic with the start of gymnastics-competition season, but I’m ninety percent sure I can make it.

ParticipantOh crud — your bike got stolen? That’s totally rotten. It must have been so upsetting when you went to ride it and you saw it wasn’t there….painful. So sorry, Ken.
