The Powhatan St bike/pedestrian bridge over I-66 was closed this morning at 8:30 am. I’m guessing this means they are starting the repaving of the MUP on the north side of I-66 that goes est from there. The 4MRT repaving from milepost 0.5 intersection with the W&OD to Ohio St is done, nice and smooth!

The overpass bridge was open this evening. I did not ride across to check out the repaving.

ParticipantThey appear to be repaving much of 4MR near W&OD (see earlier messages on the bit near the Castle and related Custis Spurt) – today I noticed that the section in Bluemont from the parking lot near the playground to somewhere around the ball fields was all new.

ParticipantAnyone else notice horse poop all up and down MVT yesterday? I saw a tweet by Alexandria PD yesterday that a religious group on horseback from Texas was making their way through the city. I assume it was them. Does that make it “holy crap”? (I’m sorry)

ParticipantBe careful while riding the sidewalk under the CSX tracks on Maine/Ohio by the tidal basin, particularly if you are coming around the corner from Ohio onto Maine eastbound. For some reason, there are a bunch of ballast stones on the sidewalk. One almost took me out this morning and they could also easily pop a tire.

Wasn’t on the MVT, but saw 4 young guys–one of whom was carrying a large wooden cross–heading toward Iwo Jima on the 110 MUP coming from Arlington Cemetary.

ParticipantAm I going to have to deal with the closure of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House all the way through Inauguration Day? Arrgh. And speaking of road closures downtown, why can the IMF close H St between 19th and 20th for more than five years to renovate a building?

Through February, yes.
And don’t complain about the IMF! That’s a great, quiet shortcut for me in the early morning PLUS that block is deliciously air conditioned in the summer.

ParticipantNot sure how many will see this, but tonight the Wilson Bridge will be temporarily closed starting around 10 pm. Well, that’s a poor choice of words, because it technically will be “open” so that a Spanish galleon can pass through.
Here’s the article: http://dcist.com/2016/11/wilson_bridge_opens.php
I plan on being at Shipyard Park in Old Town Alexandria to watch it happen. I do not know how long it will take before the bridge is available for crossing, but I figure morning commuters will not be affected.

ParticipantW&OD between MM12 and MM12.5 where they are installing rip rap in the creek. The pavement on the East bound side of the trail has a 20 foot section of wheel eating size cracks that are parallel to travel.
