    Welcome!

I love the photos in that thread too. Strangely, I never see quite as many interesting cyclists during my short commute on K St.

How do you find that in bikeforums.net?

I seem to remember it’s under the Regional discussions > North East area or something like that.

Pretty cool, but not for me. I don’t think I could deal with that thing around my neck. Interesting concept, though. I’d like to see an airbag system integrated with the frame that would deploy a cushion in the event of a crash.

It would be very embarrassing to have an airbag deploy when you’re wearing full bike gear, fail to unclip in time and fall over at 0mph whilst leaving your parking garage for your commute home (myself this afternoon).

Got to ride with RestontoDC by the airport for a minute on the way home, before he took off like a blue rocket and disappeared into the sunset :)

He was probably on his fixie too!

Better than when you try to shift to a small(er) chainring because you’re struggling and realize you were already in it…

I still kick myself for being a starving artist when I could have had one of these for $600 – back in the late 80’s or early 90’s:

Around Chicago in those days there were TWO shops that had ’em on the floor and ready to roll out the door. One’s still around but they don’t do anything like that anymore (Lickton’s), and I wish I knew what happened to the other. They even had a custom ironwork gate on the front door in the shape of a Pedersen.

Reminds me a bit of the Strida folding bikes (but probably a lot more rideable).

Maybe we should start a BikeArlington Monday night group ride.

The last time I had a problem like this was on my hybrid early last year – about 4 flats in a couple weeks. I put on new rim tape (Velox cloth stuff) and have had no flats since then. The factory installed stuff was sort of like a loop of plastic and it looked like it had moved around a lot.

Seemed like Cadel’s rear wheel change on the summit took a lot longer than it should have!

Interesting to hear Froome’s comments on wanting to maybe lead Sky next year, and how much of a sacrifice it is right now to give him the chance to become the first British TdF winner.

I don’t think anyone cares too much about how you get the times since it’s basically Cat 6 stuff anyway :D A lot of my best times are on group rides where there’s extra motivation and often drafting. I once saw a serious looking racer type being motorpaced by a van at Hains Pt. Seemed kind of pointless.

Good to know about the shims. Seems weird that there’s no adjustment screw for anything under Dura Ace 7900 though… it’s not as if Ultegra is cheap.

But I still like Shimano a lot, and didn’t particularly enjoy the one SRAM test ride I had (although I would happily try SRAM again). I have one bike with Tiagra, one with Ultegra and two others with low-end Shimano, while my MTB back in Australia is LX/XT from the early 2000s.

I want the exact same thing in a commuter, but can we find it for under $1k?

    This
would be nice at more stations.

Unfortunately I think it’s closer to $2k still… hence why I wouldn’t want to lock it up. Maybe in a few more years they’ll be more ubiquitous.

I watched a video demo of that a few months ago. Seems like a nice amenity but it’s not really necessary for me – I’m fine riding and locking a beater bike at Metro for the rare times I ride it.

I would like a Moots/Seven/Lynskey CX build but then I wouldn’t want to lock it up anywhere. So failing that, maybe a Soma Double Cross DC.

Also, a dedicated commuter with a front dynohub, belt drive, disc brakes, pretty fenders and Alfine 11 would be nice. I probably wouldn’t want to lock it up anywhere either though.

He’s also been updating his blog – last I read he mailed most of the gear in his front panniers home as they were making his bike handle too weirdly!
