You have almost 24 hours left in the day: any more rides before Jan. 2 will likely unsleaze you, as sleaze is measured by day, not by ride.
ah, damn…you’ve left me with a conundrum…do I ride after the sun rises (and I rises) or call it a day?

Participant4750 miles since the beginning of May, which is when I started keeping track. That works out to just under 600 miles per month. I’ll take that as a goal for 2015.

ParticipantI have a 3:45 appointment that afternoon at the dentist to do prep work for a crown and some other gruesome thing that I forget so yeah, I’ll probably be in line for a good beer a couple hours later. I have never ridden my bike with alcohol in my system so I don’t know what that will be like. About 30 years ago I went on a run one hour after drinking a beer and it was the WORST run I ever had, without a doubt.

ParticipantSometimes, I’m imnotvern, because I’m not, and sometimes I’m vern, because it’s there. But, I’m not vern, either.

ParticipantNot specifically for this, but for Christmas I got a rain suit, a pair of sealskinz gloves, a new blinky, and a Performance gift certificate. Prior to Christmas, I gifted myself 6 pairs of merino socks, but for some reason the peeps at On-One haven’t processed my order yet (placed 9 days ago!).
So now I have two performance gift certificates to go along with some gift cash that I am devoting to all-things bike. I can’t decide if I should be practical and devote this money/certificates to the inevitable drive train rebuild in the Spring, or, buy a new crankset to replace the floppy FSA crankset that came with the bike, or…something(s) else not entirely practical.

Exciting! Regular time? Does anyone want to caravan from Vienna?
Merry Christmas!

ParticipantCongratulations! The exact same thing happened to me…drastically lower cholesterol (and blood pressure) leading to reduced dosages and eventually the total elimination of some medications. As it turns out, the best medicine was getting on my bike most everyday.

I am in possession of some fine clear lens cycling glasses that someone left at Java Shack this morning…. rumor is they belong to Vern. let me know how I should return them. Cheers
Dang it! I knew I forgot something. Thanks for taking custody of them. We will have to arrange a rendezvous.

I have been covering my light to on-coming cyclists for years now. I generally ride west in the mornings and east in the evenings so I’m in the minority and thus getting far more cyclists coming towards me than the other way round. I have noticed a dramatic increase in night cycling traffic on the WOD, 4MR, and MVT this year, and so an increase in lights. On last night’s 20 mile commute I decided to count:
29 cyclists crossed my paths (I covered my light each time)
2 covered their lights in return
3 cyclists were using high powered strobes
4 cyclists were using blinkies (2 were Cap Bikeshares)… of the remaining 20 cyclists more than half had either lights pointed directly into my face, or were running 800 lumens (guessing) or higher, or both. I will continue to cover my light because It makes me feel like a good citizen, and it’s rare that I’m so blinded it becomes dangerous, but I am considering riding at 5:00 am and 3:00 pm to avoid the problem entirely.
Twice last night heading west on the WOD I was blinded by on-coming cyclists who didn’t cover their high lumens lights, and each time I ran over a large rock or some such thing (who knows what it was…I couldn’t see it!!), and each time I almost lost control of my bike and crashed, all whilst covering my light.

ParticipantNot I…I went down tonight, albeit softly, and now my rear derailleur is very, very unhappy. I tried to fix it but it’s beyond my limited skillset.

ParticipantThere were several tour buses parked in the new bike lanes on Eads this a.m. I didn’t stop to take a pic, but if they are there tomorrow I will and forward it on to the proper authorities.

ParticipantThere are already 32 pages between the two threads that consist of haggling over the rules, so yeah, I’d say it’s a bit competitive.

Strava should soak up little if any battery. Since you are new to smartphones as well, my guess is that something else is going on. Maybe someone at HDCC can help. Also, navigating (vs recording) WILL eat up battery.
I’m new to Strava, but not to smartphones. That said, I could probably compile the entirety of my IT knowledge into 140 characters, so it’s not shocking to me that my rollout here has been less than smooth.
