Trails from EFC to Rosslyn were clear and just wet
Sounds like Arlington is keeping up the exemplary work!
Tom H
ParticipantBe careful this AM… Any untreated spots that stay shady might have 0 traction!

Anyone ride the TR bridge today? Or the MVT from the bridge to Rosslyn?
TR Br is horrid. Walked most of it!
MVT mediocre until the spiral up to RosslynTom H
ParticipantN Arlington to mall today
Road shoulder bike lanes deadly
Arl home sidewalks C
Arl business walks D+
(Among both some sterling exceptions)
Custis A – fabulous Arlington!!!
Spiral to GW Pkwy / MVT OK, go real slow
GW Pkwy / MVT ick, NPS check out Arlington’s policy
Roosevelt Bridge a walk to slow treacherous ride – nearly frozen slush that a quick scrape would work wonders on.
Mall sidewalk Rock Cr to Bacon better to just ride on the virgin snow on grass, since the ground’s frozen.
Nam Mem & Mem Gdns fair, half speed fine
Washingtn Monument / Const. sidewalk great.
Smithsonian walks immaculate (yes and not all are legal)
bundle up!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantRoosevelt Bridge was pretty bad this AM, walked nearly half of that sidewalk.

ParticipantAmazing how sublimation can be so quick to make passages when the humidity is low in sub-freezing weather. Won’t be so easy on the rink in the shady apt. stretches between Spout and Rosslyn on the Custis, may as well just bring on the Zamboni!

ParticipantLyon village did remove the huge blockage, but their access ramp as it stands will takes weeks to melt open. Riding is back to normal except for occasional piles blocking Ped ramps. Enjoy the warm rain!

ParticipantThanks for the Custis report Steve O. And yes, the Lyon V Center plow crew regularly blocks the access ramp from the lot by CVS. Anyhow the trail from there is a soup of bridges and shade, and I’m taking it tomorrow on my old fendered Marin hybrid grit bike, slow and steady…. And maybe at 50 psi.

ParticipantHey folks, I’m a newbie here but a 17 yr winter commuter in these parts.
Any reports on the Custis from Lyon V to Rosslyn? (Or is that part of the Arlington loop?) Hate that Spout Run bridge, bad bad design on the Bike & Ped side, zero drainage). Tomorrow AM should be “interesting”!!!

ParticipantI’m also ride to/from DC, about an hour after you each way, but enter the Custis (NB: not Curtis) only at Lyon Village and ride it down to Rosslyn on my way to the Roosevelt Bridge. Sounds like your ride must be 13-14 miles, while mine is only 7 miles from home to work. I commute year round, rain or shine but not on ice.
By the way, sometime last weekend or just prior Arlington must have run a plow down the Custis trail.
(Thanks Arlington!)Enjoy the ride, there are plenty of helpful bikers on the trails if you ever have a problem.

ParticipantHoping that the rain will clear enough snow to get back on the road soon with tolerable car clearance. I expect that the Custis will include some of the last bikeable stretches. Last I saw the Roosevelt bridge the sidewalks were full of snow mounds.
