Is Mike’s still opening at 7:30? Trying to guess what time they’ll actually open this Monday (MLK day).

Trucks pulled up just as I was taking a pic to show you the tree was still there. They got there about 4:15 or so.

So…two large trucks blocking the path.

CUSTIS TRAIL: CHERRYDALE (west of S-Curve) – 1/11/2016, am

Downed tree, just west of the bridge after the S-curve. The tree goes over the path, but could pose a hazard to the trail if it slips (it did not look stable). I plan to notify ArlCo after my 11am meeting, but if someone beats me to it, reply below.

    {This is new, right? I ride this pretty much every day – I even rode yesterday, and didn’t notice until this morning}

I’m not familiar with Arlington neighborhood names – are you talking about (heading east) right before the bridge over Lee Highway where you then make a bumpy right to go down the spiral that’s always covered in wet leaves (right before you get to the shopping center with a bike store and a BGR and The Italian Store)?

I saw vines hanging down into the path this am (it was a “wait! what the?!?” moment in the dark). I meant to put in a trail report but forgot until you posted! It was too dark to see the tree (kinda glad I didn’t).

The good news is that once they stretch out a bit on the rims they should be easier next time.

I was going to say the good news is that once you figure out how to successfully wrestle a difficult tire/rim combination, you’ll be a tire changing wizard…

You: the trail ninja doing burpees in the middle of the W&OD in the dark

Me: the bicyclist who actually DID see you in time but skidded to a stop on purpose. I hope I made my point?

    You’re right. Post amended.

BTW, if I don’t say hi to you there along Idylwood Park it’s because I can’t recognize you when you’re so bundled up!

I’m Tania and I need to ride my bikes (3) more. Like this am – I was punished for sleeping in with a disabled metro train ahead of us and then our train being offloaded. I promise to CaBi sleeze a ride or two today though.

I’ve already signed up for a couple of longer races late Winter/early Spring and committed to a century in May AND got talked into joining a race team so yeah…I need to ride more. Plus, if I don’t ride more I’ll lack any reason to buy a Cutthroat and a Beargrease.

Way too much of a cheap date to ride and drink beer (no joke) but I’m all about rides with food…Cronuts anyone? (And please don’t trick me into going to a vegan bakery, like dcv did last year.)

…and I’m out. Dentist referred me to a specialist and they could squeeze me in this afternoon so here I sit still in my sweaty bike clothes. (The lengths introverts go to get out of social interactions!)

I will then be drowning my fears of impending dental surgery (and hits to my bank account) with massive amounts of Chinese food (possibly Thai) on the couch in my pjs.

Also, I have learned a new word: “periapical.”

If you drink before your ride you probably don’t need anything on your commute unless it is like 2 hours long or something.

Dude I go through almost a full bottle even when it’s 14F.

I’m doing two round-trips today into the city from Merrifield…my legs already dread the second trip up the Custis. I need a nap.

I can take a couple of shifts since I’m not much for socializing. Or bars.

Wait. Why am I going to this thing anyway when I could be on my couch in my pj’s? That sounds so much nicer.

Blowing back into the camelbak line can help – I’ve been out hiking many winters in single digits and had decent enough success with this. The mouthpiece may freeze but you can bite through that to break it up. There’s usually nuun or some sort of electrolyte in there when I’m out for a few hours.

My water bottle didn’t start to freeze up until about 50 minutes into my ride yesterday morning and even then it was still drinkable.

Boomer – can you put two aside for me please? I paypal-ed Steve on December 23rd and never received them.
