What about following a format on the monthly Road and Trail Conditions thread to make these easier to read? These threads sometimes contain off-topic or marginally-related messages. What about if hazard warning posts always start off with the name of the location in bold type and all caps? Then a more detailed description of the problem could follow. For example, something like this:
MVT/GRAVELLY POINT – 1/23/2018, 8 am
Downed tree, 100 ft. north of the airplane viewing area. Blocking the entire trail. NPS has been notified.
This would make the thread easier to read for people who want to see hazard/obstacle warnings quickly before they head off to work/school/other. There wouldn’t have to be a precise format, as long as people use similar formats that highlight the location of the problem and make the notice easy to spot by those scanning through the thread quickly.
Just a suggestion. Obviously no one has to follow this suggested format. I just thought that it would make these threads easier to use by those who are in a rush in the mornings, evenings or any other time of the day.

Downed tree, just west of the bridge after the S-curve. The tree goes over the path, but could pose a hazard to the trail if it slips (it did not look stable). [*edit*] I notified ArlCo via trails@arlingtonva.us.
{This is new, right? I ride this pretty much every day – I even rode yesterday, and didn’t notice until this morning}

I’m not familiar with Arlington neighborhood names – are you talking about (heading east) right before the bridge over Lee Highway where you then make a bumpy right to go down the spiral that’s always covered in wet leaves (right before you get to the shopping center with a bike store and a BGR and The Italian Store)?
I saw vines hanging down into the path this am (it was a “wait! what the?!?” moment in the dark). I meant to put in a trail report but forgot until you posted! It was too dark to see the tree (kinda glad I didn’t).

That is the location dasgeh is describing. I didn’t see it when I went by at about 7:15-7:20am today. It was dark, I suppose. Or I am too short to notice.

Yep. The neighborhood from that bridge until the 2 sisters is called Cherrydale. The “spiral” is often called “the S-Curve of [insert frightening phrase here]”. No need to note the neighborhood (though it is on the wayfinding signs, and we do have a hardware store and some restaurants and shops – and lots of car dealerships), but the S-Curve is discussed here often.

ParticipantTrucks pulled up just as I was taking a pic to show you the tree was still there. They got there about 4:15 or so.
So…two large trucks blocking the path.

I’ve seen cyclists down there, and have almost had collisions myself. You’ll navigate it safely time after time, but do it every day for a decade or so and your odds of having a problem go up. At this point I always have my hands on the brake levers just in case, and I tend to hug the outside of the trail.

I go slowly and ring my bell a lot. It’s not a well-constructed turn, but I don’t think that there is room to improve it.

What could be done is to install actual usable mirrors. The single, convex mirror installed by the curve itself is totally useless. What is needed here are two separate mirrors, one for each direction, installed such that it allows one to see around the corner while approaching.
