ParticipantShe will be missed. Always a friendly hello when I’d pass her usually on the Shreve bridge above 66. My heart goes out to her family.

ParticipantOne of those shiny new bldgs at 7th and Maine will be occupied with about 600 people come Monday morning.

Even when the W&OD is open, this is a nice alternative to be familiar with. Since I first learned about Lincoln Ave, I have never returned to the official route (aka the stop sign olympics) through there again except for group rides.
Used this today and will keep using it. Thanks!

ParticipantWent with the Banjo Brothers grocery panniers which have a fully open top (much like a basket), fold up and were stupidly easy to put on and take off.
Shopping this am was too much fun.

I have these Panniers, which can carry a standard grocery bag in each Pannier. They cost $70 but that’s for a pair of two, so they are $35/Each. I have a rebranded version of it called JANND that you can see here. Mine has a footprint of 12″x9″, but the description on Amazon says 14″x9″, maybe they have changed it? Mine can hold a Whole Food bag, or two gallons of milk side by side. Please see customer images below:

The bushwhacker panniers are the closest to what I had in my mind’s eye and so far they are the widest at the bottom. My bags are long (16″ wide at the narrowest part and I have at least four of them so I’d like to be able to use them and have the option of really stuffing them once and a while).
Sunyata – no basil memories in stock (at least not last night or not with the other baskets). They’re getting in the Banjo Bros grocery panniers so I can see them in person.

New grocery-getter/townie bike. I’ve got a rack on the back and I’m thinking of putting grocery panniers on it. SteveO recommended Arkel’s and then Banjo Brothers has some that are significantly cheaper. My issue is that my canvas grocery tote bags are wider/longer than standard grocery bags so I’m not sure how easy it will be to drop my canvas bag into the pannier. I kinda want to quickly plop my reusable canvas bags onto the bike/into a basket/pannier/whatever and then pedal off. I don’t want to have to fight with fasteners or roll tops or flaps or wedging my too-big bags into panniers. It’s a half mile to the store, it’s not like it needs to be secure and waterproof.
May try the folding Ward side basket panniers instead – anyone have them? If so, do they rattle? Can I put them them on and take them off pretty easily like with a standard pannier?
A Surly 24-pack front rack is going on tomorrow and then I have to figure out what I’m doing with it. I’ll probably just zip tie a milk crate to it initially.
Open to recommendations for sure.

ParticipantI live pretty close to Mosaic and won’t drive on gallows between 29 and the 495 entrance/exit ramps a little ways south. Nope nope nope nope.

ParticipantI say hi every time I bike by that spot. “Hi Pete!” And I can totally hear him say “Hey lady!”
We keep our loved ones alive in our memories and his memory makes me smile.

ParticipantWell, crap. That’s on my pandemic walking route although wider sidewalks (eventually) will be appreciated.
As far as the cycling detour, I wouldn’t bike on Dorr Ave or Merrilee Ave (Merrilee Dr is ok) – both roads are covered with broken glass due to the recycling-truck-whatever-it-is on the corner across from Mr Tire. (Trust me, I live here and walk those two roads almost daily)
I’d probably take Prosperity – low traffic especially now and it’s two lanes in each direction so you can take the whole lane.
The western side of the path along Gallows is busy. The eastern side is narrow and less traveled. But it’s also made even more narrow by construction. Gallows is also two lanes but still has a lot of traffic and the speed limit is a joke. Do-able but maybe hustle.

Same building as the garage races.

ParticipantIn! Although I’ll be one-legged mashing up the ramps.
